Backup battery for unexpected power outages Resmed Airsense 10
I would like to get a backup battery for my Resmed Airsense 10 autoset for power outages. I hope the machine will be able to hold a charge so I can use it if the power goes out unexpectedly.
My husband suggests this machine - the Jackery Portable Power Station Generator but I notice the comments sound like it can turn off after 3 hours if not drawing enough wattage.
https://www.amazon.com/Jackery-Portable ... 881&sr=8-3
This one looks good but some comments say it didn't hold a charge. MAXOAK CPAP Battery Backup CPAP Power Bank for Airsense 10 Resmed S9 Philip REMstar System one 60 50 Dreamstation Z1 Aircurve Transcend Mini Travel Camping Emergency Power DC12/15/24V&USB5V
https://www.amazon.com/MAXOAK-Airsense- ... 966&sr=8-3
I am hoping the machine can just sit by my bed and if the power goes out, I can plug my machine into it and go right back to sleep. Do you know if either of the above will do that? If not, do you have any other backup batteries you recommend? I like in New England if that makes a difference.
Thank you!!

Unless your husband wants to blow a ton of money on little capacity, he should help you with a 35ah mobility scooter battery, a battery tender, battery box, and the 12v power cable for your cpap.
That'll last you 5 nights or so without heated humidity, and cost a fraction of those expensive things you're looking at.

Re: Backup battery for unexpected power outages Resmed Airsense 10
Thank you for the reply. I am afraid that suggestion is a bit beyond my level of technical ability. Maybe my husband can do what you recommend.
I am wondering if you or anyone knows if the Jackery Portable Power Station Generator is hard to keep on when using and if it is something people who have CPAPs often use as a backup battery for times the power suddenly goes out. We are thinking of times when we are sleeping and the power goes out, something that happened recently. It would be very nice at those times to be able to simply unplug our current machines and plug them into a backup battery without having to get out of bed and then go back to sleep. Here is the link to the Jackery Portable Power Station Generator.

I wonder if this other one works better for CPAPs. MAXOAK CPAP Battery Backup CPAP Power Bank for Airsense 10 Resmed S9 Philip REMstar System one 60 50 Dreamstation Z1 Aircurve Transcend Mini Travel Camping Emergency Power DC12/15/24V&USB5V

Thanks for any replies.

Re: Backup battery for unexpected power outages Resmed Airsense 10
I do not think the Jackery units will work well for you. First, they are not designed for full-time always-on (so that it would just switch over in the midst of a power outage), and second (and related) they are Li-Ion based. Li-Ion batteries *hate* being fully charged all the time. They will be useless within a few years at best, and then you will need a new unit, or a replacement battery pack, at significant expense again.gardengirl77 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 3:10 pmThank you for the reply. I feel similarly about the MAXOAK unit, especially after looking at the user manual. There is a disclaimer in it that you should re-charge the unit to 60% before storing ... that is precisely for the reason I've been mentioning.
Although Li-Ion is more 'current' if you will (Zonker, that was NOT a pun!) there's a reason people here press for lead acid batteries. To my knowledge there is no Li-Ion based device that solves this issue ... to do so it would have to manage the charge level and keep it below around 80%. While that is certainly possible, it then means that you get less runtime for the same investment in battery.
Bummer, I know...

Re: Backup battery for unexpected power outages Resmed Airsense 10
The simple 12v lead acid battery may not be sutiable either as I
think your Cpap needs 24v dc. But a lead acid batery and a cheap
dc power inverter would do the job.

The ResMed 12v power cable takes care of the voltage conversion. It's designed for use in a vehicle.

Being extremely charitable, I'm not comfortable or experienced with this type of stuff either. If you or your husband reads this thread, viewtopic/t114012/Choosing-a-Battery.ht ... =capn+loki, it talks very clearly about exactly what is needed and provides links as well. It's written by Cap'n Loki who is our resident expert on battery power.
For a total of around 150$ (2017 pricing) he has a pretty complete battery backup system. That beats the $250 Jackery system (smallest unit/smallest wattage), or the $300 maxoak options.

I've read through the linked post and I'm afraid I'm still not clear as to the setup that's recommended. Would it be possible to post pictures of the actual set up with an explanation of what's what? I understand the idea of a scooter battery for example, I understand the idea of a battery charger, but I cannot understand what the CPAP machine would plug into, or how to connect it to the battery. Any help in that regard would be most appreciated.
Re: Backup battery for unexpected power outages Resmed Airsense 10
Look at the cpap 12v adapter for your machine, they come with a standard '12v plug' (used to be called a cigarette lighter plug) and clips, so you can just clip it onto the battery if you don't do a more permanent installation.1.41 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 12:49 amI've read through the linked post and I'm afraid I'm still not clear as to the setup that's recommended. Re: Backup battery for unexpected power outages Resmed Airsense 10
To add to palerider's answer, look at the resmed power adapter: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... 0-machines. You can see that one end has a DC power outlet plug (aka cigarette lighter plug) and the other end plugs in to your cpap. The box in the middle converts the 12v dc to what the machine needs (24v dc).
And as palerider pointed out below, it comes with battery clips and a power outlet.
Does that help?

Look again, it comes with alligator clips and a dc power socket.khauser wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 10:48 amTo add to palerider's answer, look at the resmed power adapter: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... 0-machines. So you'll need a dc power outlet for the battery ... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075KDB7Y5/re ... eFbW5GH361 is a good example. I think the fuse is mandatory for safety.

Thank you all for the great advice! We really appreciate it!!
We are wondering what you think of the following options for 2 CPAP machines; about $110 - $120 for each machine for a total of about $220 - $240:
Batteries (2 pack of 35AH, 12 V; $130): https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07VFT6BQT/ ... _lig_dp_it
Car Charger DC Adapter for ResMed Air 10 (2x$33=$66): https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07P6H994Q/ ... _lig_dp_it
Option1 (shorter wire Ring Terminal; $11) Female Cigarette Lighter 1.6FT Outlet Ring Terminal Plug Power Supply Cord https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07DH8D4FR/ ... _lig_dp_it
Option 2 (longer wire with Battery Clamp; 2x10=$20) 2V/ 24V Extension Cord Plug Socket with Battery Clamp 4.9FT https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B072MZM74S/ ... _lig_dp_it
We already have a car battery charger: https://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-SC-60 ... op?ie=UTF8
2 battery boxes 2x10=$20): https://smile.amazon.com/NOCO-HM318BKS- ... 057&sr=8-3
Thank you for any feedback!

*WARNING* - No one has answered in 7hrs but the insecure one will now.
IMO Option1 (shorter wire Ring Terminal) should be long enuff. Don't forget the cpap cord will give you additional length.
Also I think the charger you already have is over kill. By all means you can use it because you already have it. What I have used are both of these for diff applications
https://www.harborfreight.com/search?q= ... %20charger
The smaller one I have seen on sale for $5 so keep an eye out if that interest you. You can use these with the alligator clips to try things out or crimp on some rings lugs.
I have used mine for almost 10 yrs like a UPS with the charger always plugged in - while using DC to power my cpap. Who wants to wake up in the middle of the nite to fuss around with a plug then 'try' to get back to sleep? Not I.
