Alternative to Ruby Red Chin Strap by CareFusion

Post by CpapUser100 » Tue Aug 25, 2020 4:14 pm

My husband has been using the Large (not adjustable) Ruby Red chin strap for years but it is no longer made. I see other red chin straps but most are adjustable and I am not familiar with the brands. Is there an alternative brand that is as tight fitting as this one? He does not want an adjustable one.

(this time, i read the post, though)

the link lsat gave you gets you to this-

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=carefusion+r ... w4x0v3yz_p

hope this is what you are looking for.

Most, if not all, of those links are misleading. You click on them (and may have to click on another link or go through the ordering process) to see that the picture shows that they are the adjustable kind (dark velcro thing on top), do not have the size large, are made by a different manufacturer, or are not in stock.

I did a lot of searching before posting and was not able to find what I was looking for. I have been told by 2 different home health services who I used to purchase the chin strap from that it has not been made for quite a while.

I was hoping to find someone with personal experience or who is specifically familiar with this chin strap, as any old red chin strip will not do. It needs to be super tight like CareFusion's Ruby Red, which the sleep doctor had previously recommended as the most effective for people like my husband who will still open their mouths with lighter support. Some of the reviews on Amazon mention that the chin strap the recipient received is not as tight fitting as the CareFusion one.

LSAT's Yahoo search brought up a couple of potentially promising places that I did not see with a Google search. I will call them to make sure that they are not substituting an adjustable one or a different brand like everyone else is.

thank you for the response. i'll quit trying to look for them, then.

this is the second time i've looked and it hasn't turned out to be what the folks looking want.

It's actually hard, for some reason, to teach people how to search effectively. For work I am a software developer. Unlike the old days, it's almost impossible to keep every way of doing something in one's (old?) head. As a result, Google is now my external memory system.

A lot of people where I work have the first issue. Very few of them seem able to grasp my solution. So they come to me, and I try and show them how to find the answers, but they keep coming back.

I could stop, but somehow this makes me a lead in the eyes of my bosses, so... yeah.

(Don't get me started on how hard it is to get someone to run a debugger when they find an issue, rather than try to get another person to fix it for them).

OK, enough software talk. There's maybe 2 people here who care. Maybe

i think much of my problem is-

1. google

2. i don't actually read the links.

when i'm searching for streaming videos, i find bing to be a better alternative for me. it strips away the one gazillion pages referring to youtube and will bring up dailymotion, which i prefer. maybe i should just wean myself off of google.

i don't read the links when searching for someone else because i'm assuming that the "someone else" doesn't have even my rudimentary search skills.

I think all of your problem is thinking it is you that has the problem. You're very nice to try and help. But this is the give a fish or teach how to fish argument except the student won't try.

When I saw this OP post I also did a quick google search and got what I thought were promising links but I took the time to go look at a few of the links and read the details and everything I found pointed to the adjustable version and not the non adjustable version. After about half a dozen I gave up. I am beginning to wonder if they aren't making the non adjustable version of that chin strap anymore. I saw no reference to CareFusion who makes this chin strap no longer being in business but that doesn't mean they didn't simply change the product design.

Google or similar searches are like using a dictionary to figure out how to spell a word....it helps if you know how to spell or word the search but then if we knew how to spell something we wouldn't need a dictionary would we? Even though I was very specific with my wording in my search for the non adjustable version...I still got hits that were the adjustable version. Searches get us close but we still have to do more work unfortunately. When I have time I will do the extra work but when I don't I won't.

Anyway I ran out of time and had other stuff to do so that's why I didn't post....I had nothing constructive to offer. Somebody somewhere likely has the non adjustable version but it's obviously not easy or quick to find.

They are showing a large Ruby Red non adjustable chinstrap. Below is a chat I had with them as well, today at 1:30pm

Thank you William....you did a lot of work and went well beyond the call of duty.
That also explains why I couldn't find much about CareFusion itself.

Thank you so much,William! That was incredibly kind of you. That company is one of the two that I had planned to call but hadn't had a chance to yet.

Thanks to everyone else who offered assistance as well.

It can be difficult to locate things when companies are bought out and I think I will stock up on the chin strip while I can
