Newer Cpaps could have pin to lock patients out
Newer Cpaps could have pin to lock patients out
I recently got a dreamstation go. I went into the setup menu luckily it was not locked. But there is a screen for a provider to enter a pin so patients cannot get to the clinical menu without the code. I hope all Cpaps do not start to go this way. I am surprised they wanted to do this.
Re: Newer Cpaps could have pin to lock patients out
And you would want to lock patients (and yourself) out because why?

DMEs and doctors would want to because we are too stupid (they think) to go messing with the settings. More control over the patient...force an office visit charge (those sure aren't cheap) or trip back to DME who won't do anything without a doctor telling them to do it.
I can see this sort of control happening in the future but I can also see where people will learn the code or how to reset to factory defaults and use most likely a universal code from the factory. People will find a way around it...we always do.

If you're "locked out" because you don't know the pin, you can enter an incorrect pin 8 times. At this point you will be prompted to "Reset Data".
This will reset to Factory Default, where you can now access Provider Mode, but you will need to reconfigure all your therapy settings.

Not sure if it will let you reset the code if you get locked out? I was just shocked about this on the dreamstation go. Pugsy is right, more money and control for the DME and doctors! Maybe its getting to the point where older machines will be better than newer machines.

Re: Newer Cpaps could have pin to lock patients out
Pretty much all machines are going to have the ability to reset things back to factory defaults.
How else could DMEs/docs give someone a machine that has been used by someone else?
I am fairly confident that resetting to factory defaults is always going to be an option and when that is an option its usually fairly easy to find a key to unlocking things.
They can't make it too difficult because most DMEs/docs aren't all that smart anyway.
My bigger concern is storage of detailed data that lets us use available software. Will they do away with SD card storage and rely solely on cellular transmission? The "bluetooth" stuff will be a joke...basic summary data only and essentially no different than what might be available on the LCD screen. But hey....people love apps...even useless apps.

Why wouldn't you think it resets the PIN?
It doesn't make sense to offer to reset the data after 8 attempts, but then still retain the PIN.
Reseting the device to factory, suggests reseting everything except the internal machine hours.

If we would accept that, the Doctor would be correct, if not we would change doctors... My DME is pretty reasonable--if I ask, they will do what they reasonably can to keep ME happy.
I am a repeat customer.
We are their bread and butter.
Sometimes we just need to remind them.

We are not their bread and butter, they do not see us that way.
Referring doctors and insurers are their bread and butter. DME's make money on volume selling machines and maybe on parted out whole masks. Individual patients, who make them fill out a ton of paperwork just to send them a few filters and get reimbursed barely above the cost are not their bread and butter. Buying a cushion here or there doesn't keep them in business.
Try "reminding them". They will roll their eyes and laugh behind your back.
You are lucky to have a reasonable DME. Most are not reasonable and don't give a flying F about providing good customer service for your repeat business.

You could be right.
I fired three other DMEs before hooking up with this one.
I bet any one of them would set the pin.

Re: Newer Cpaps could have pin to lock patients out
Since some service providers do not return the same machine, there would have to be a reset.
That could be a mess.
Chances are, a portion of the SN would be the pin.
Then the dealer/repair shop could find it easily.
Not to worry; the forum geniuses will figure out how to "jailbreak" the new models.
