New CPAP - New Test - First time on medicare

Post by D.H. » Thu Jun 03, 2021 3:23 pm

My most recent CPAP is now six years old; time to replace. The new machine will be #5 since 1999.

Meanwhile, I turned 65 earlier this year, so I'm now on Medicare rather than the plan offered by my retirement.

I would done this last year (on the old insurance), but I did not want to do the in-lab test until I was vaccinated for Covid-19. Meanwhile, they did not check my vaccination status and instead required a negative COVID test.

Both my old insurance and Medicare require a new test for a new machine.

I have a Zoom appointment with the doctor on 6/15. Pneumonia shot the same day (several hours apart).

Get an Auto adjusting machine. One that is Oscar compatible. Or soon will be.

Good luck, old man. :D

Yes, I intend to. The machine I have now is an automatic. I don't want a downgrade!

This is wrong. My first sleep study was when I was 56. Medicare paid for a new machine when I turned 65. Medicare paid for another new machine when I was 70. They did not require another test either time. Quit wasting taxpayers' money with worthless tests!

Exactly who told you that Medicare will require a new sleep test?

Medicare will accept sleep study results done prior to going on Medicare as long as the sleep study meets certain criteria and most sleep studies done in the last 20 years will meet those requirements.

Clearly explained on the Medicare website.

This was discussed before and the welcome wagon scared that person away. Let's not let this one get out of control too.

I am getting sleep study next Thursday. Medicare does require it. I also downloaded OSCAR to try to find out what is going on with my current machine. I am still learning this software. Please dont post any negative comments. I am just trying to figure out why I am so exhausted all the time
Blueeyes is alive and has a new machine without a new sleep study. She is still participating in the forum.

Finally got new CPAP machine yesterday. It is a Dreamstation and it is so quiet. I slept 5.31 hours with it.

https://www.medicare.gov/coverage/conti ... re-devices
Note

If you had a CPAP machine before you got Medicare, Medicare may cover CPAP machine cost for replacement CPAP machine rental and/or CPAP accessories if you meet certain requirements.
The requirements mainly pertain to the diagnostic sleep study and how it was done and what data it collected.
They don't require a new sleep study unless the old sleep study doesn't meet their requirements......which is entirely possible that it doesn't but most sleep studies done in the last 10 to 20 years...Medicare is okay with them.

Call up Medicare and see what they say.
Don't ever take the word of a DME....but we all know that.

Any new machine that medicare does pay for will have the same compliance requirements as someone brand new to cpap though.
Same hours of use requirements and face to face prior to 91st day after starting the machine no matter how long you have been a cpap user.

Get back on topic please and bitching and whining and critiquing other people's posts and insinuating crap.... that is not being on topic.

Off topic crap will be removed.

DH....long time member here...and no one was rude to him at least in this thread. Now other threads...yeah but not here.

Just because a comment is short and to the point doesn't mean it was hateful or mean spirited....but bitching about it sure is.

This will stop right now.
