Resmed 10 and SoClean Issue! See Pic!

Post by Medic856 » Sun Jul 18, 2021 8:04 am

I have had the Resmed 10 machine for a little over a year. Upon recommendations from friends, I also purchased the SoClean 2. It has been fine until the last few weeks. I started noticing black specks in the water chamber in the morning. I'm pretty good at cleaning the parts, but I cleaned everything again anyway. Hose, mask, reservoir. Changed SoClean filter. Changed black silicon hose. Changed Resmed filter. Still continued to find specks every day. Has to be inside the machine, everything else is spotless. YouTube to see how to disassemble. Find the foam seal in pieces! Now I know where the black pieces are coming from. I'm ready to sue Resmed, then I see the warranty doesn't cover that because of the Soclean. Apparently the damage is caused by Ozone. So they say. Does anyone know if there will be any issues using the machine without the foam? What about a replacement foam piece? Thanks in advance!

Put SoClean in the forum search bar - you'll get lots of answers!

SoClean is a scam, a waste of money and will invalidate your machine warranty. Get your money back if you can!

It appears that the Phillips recall is for the same reason as this problem
. So why no recall for the Resmed?

No, it is not the same problem.

Philips is *not* being recalled because the foam is incompatible with ozone (all though it is). Philips is being recalled because its foam off-gases VOCs (without degrading), and it degrades even without exposure to ozone.

Ozone is incompatible with many materials, it's not product the manufacturers (ResMed) responsibility because people don't follow instructions and do whatever the hell they want.

If you dump a bunch of bleach in your laundry, is it Levi's responsibility to get you a new pair of jeans?

ResMed has issued a statement and I got an email from them saying the type of foam they use is different from the type Philips uses which is causing the recall.

Maybe so. But it looks the same.

Don't blame ResMed cause you used a SoClean machine and ruined your cpap machine.

Why do you think Resmed should be sued and not SoClean, which is the real problem here? There is no reason to be using SoClean. Doing so puts a lot of wear and tear on machines and it is completely unnecessary. Why does anyone use it?

You might want to read this. If your machine falls in this time frame SoClean will pay for the repairs. https://hartmedical.org/blog/post/socle ... rification

Tell all your friends to avoid Respironics and Noclean.
You don't have to buy a Resmed to get away from "foamgate",
but it's probably the best alternative--if you can $wing it.
Other brands, like Devillbiss, will be grateful for your business,
and you don't have to wait a year or more, or for the FDA, or lawyers, etc.
This is your health--put it on the top of the "to-do" list.

Neat post! I had just finished watching this video that shows the effects of ozone on the foam in Dreamstation 1 & 2, and Airsense 10.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbHcZUFRDqg

The Resmed foam appeared to more or less hold up in his experiment, but it looks by your experience that may not be the case over the longterm.

I'll just keep cleaning with soap and water. :D

I removed the foam from my ResMed AirSense 10 and have been using it without any issue. No difference in pressure or AHI compared to using the machine with the foam. That’s been my experience.
