Do you back up your Oscar files and, if so, how and do they take up a lot of space? Thanks

no, not me.

"trust the force, luke." or something. prolly cuz i'm just too blamed lazy. also because i don't really care to see my old data, just the current stuff.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

How often do you go back and look at your old records? I know I have 6-7 years sitting out there and I have never looked back.

Okay, thanks, that makes sense. Once you get things sorted out, not much need.

I got kind of curious to look at my early records, back when we had Sleepyhead, but I realized I lost them when my old computer crashed. It would have been interesting, but not enough to go to the trouble. Thanks.

No. I don't really care about old data anyway.

I just got a new laptop and installed OSCAR on it. Still haven't downloaded to it yet.
I am not even going to bother bringing the old OSCAR stuff to this new computer. I have probably a couple of years worth of data on this SD card...more than enough.
Heck, the last time I downloaded the card to the old laptop it had been 63 days since last download. Obviously I don't look at the details all that much now....but remember I have been doing this for over 12 years. It got really boring seeing the same old thing night after night after night after night.

In 11 years of cpap use, I used Sleepyhead sporadically for a couple years or so.
I have not even downloaded Oscar.
My data has always been so unexceptional,
sometimes I forget to write down the basics from the sleep report.
The wish "May you live in interesting times." is truly a curse.
I have been blessed by the gift of boredom--so far.
But excitement is brewing--I shall fill you in when I have details.

Even though I don't use (or have never used) Oscar (I've used an older Respironics software - Encore), I have all of my nightly files going back to when I started.......in May of 2005.
No, they don't take up a lot of space......in the whole scheme of things.
And, contrary to what others may say, it's NOT about keeping them to look back at some data (which I have occasionally), it's about saving them to be able to PROVE my compliance with this therapy and its effectiveness.
Said another way, it's my legal CYA (proof of use)........should it ever come up in a court of law.......and it COULD (if you ever happen to fall asleep at the wheel).

Your call.

Well, I guess that I am the odd one here about this issue. I do backup all my OSCAR and Sleepyhead data. I have four identical ResMed Machines that I alternate though to keep the usage hours to less than 6,000@. With multiple machines both software packages can easily combine data from all four machines into one data stream in their outputs. If I was to ever have a computer crash (I have and it is not fun), or just buying a new one, it is much easier to rebuild data files from one OSCAR or Sleepyhead folder that reloading multiple SD discs. All data is backed-up locally on external hard drives and in "cloud" storage. Cloud storage also allows me to sync date between multiple computers, which I do; both computers have near identical capabilities even though one is a tower/desktop computer and the other is a laptop (both w/W10 and i7 Intel CPUs). I just load SD data on either machine and it is synced over to the other computer. I like have a year's worth of data that I can easily show my sleep doctor, which make my visits brief. Its all there in back & white, no questions need to be asked/answered. I also like looking at trends over time to see if anything looks odd that does not show up with short term views.

I know all this is extreme, but I am a retired engineer where backup was always critical. Plus it is easy since I do the same with all my data.

15 years now and I have recorded it all and have never once looked at anything more than a month ago. Waste of disk space, but in cyberworld, storage is too cheap to worry about!

I have 5 years backed up to a .csv file (MS Excel) and it only takes up 236kb, which is nothing.

The only reason I backed this up is because I might be getting a CDL and want this data in case a doctor wants to see it for the DOT physical at some point.

I enter hours, pressure, leaks, AHI, "centrals", and my morning blood sugar
in a single line of a notebook--each page has 21 lines.
The last line is a trigger to change pillows and filter.
I am working on my third notebook (since july of 2010)
I use the current notebook to impress my doctors--(it works pretty good.)
After working for 24 years on a computer,
I needed to stop dreading the inevitable crash.
I live without backups--or fear.
