OT: limited on my typing

Post by Pugsy » Sat Aug 28, 2021 9:50 am

So most of you all know I had surgery on my right thumb this week.
I will be in a splint for 8 to 12 weeks. most likely 12 per my doc.
my replies will be brief and probably typo filled so bear with me....right now lots of pain as well.

Don't be surprised or take offense if I am very brief with what I type.

Incision AND a splint?
Oh, my!
Skin heals fairly quickly, but immobilization, followed by therapy--yuck!
Cyber hugs!

Yep. They removed a bone in the wrist. Shaved another. Redid some tendon stuff so that the thumb would eventually work liked it is supposed to. The tendons were cut and reattached and that is why the splint and thumb immobilization.
Absolutely no thumb movement at all until tendons heal up.

It totally sucks and hurts like hell.

take care, take whatever they are giving you and rest up.

your input will be missed but we'll muddle along.
people say i'm self absorbed.

They didn't give you any pain medication for it?

Of course I have some of the "good stuff...percocet"
While it helps some....it's not what it's cracked up to be.
Don't get high and don't get pain free like people think pain meds work.
The hurts like hell is with 7.5 mg on board. If I take more or too soon then I tend to want to puke up my toenails.
Damned if I do and damned if I don't.

I was on the 10/325 percocet for 5 years and finally got off of it last April, I had to ween my way down. They say one every 6 hours and your lucky if you get 3 hours out of it. Just hang in there it will get better in time. You got to be care full of those toenails.

That is about what I have found as well. Officially RX says 1 or 2 of the 7.5/325 every 6 hours but I have found that 1/2 tab every 2 hours works about as well and saves the toenails. I can handle pain better than nausea and vomiting. I am a big wuss when it comes to nausea.

For some unknown reason it actually hurts more today than yesterday.
And yes.... I know it will get better with time....but I reserve my right to whine about it.

I noticed that too. The local they use during surgery hangs out a while.
Then, the next day, the pain gets to smack you silly.
24 hours later, I noticed swelling and pain from the tunnelling they had done.

Oh, I am glad you had your surgery and sorry you are now in pain. But I hope it is successful and that in time (hopefully sooner rather than later! :D ) you are feeling better than you have! Sending healing thoughts, prayers, and virtual hugs your way!

Pugsy,

...just wanted to say that I hope you feel better and heal quickly!

Hopefully all your typing now if via some sort of voice to text (the phone is good for that too).

Don't worry about the grammar/spelling police...if any one says anything, we'll slap em' down real quick! :D

Oh, Don't forget about Ibuprofen to reduce the swelling - hopefully that's in your medicine relief plan.
* This is the internet - what I write will probably NOT come across as it would in person; where one can read a person's face.
My posts are sometimes tongue & cheek w/some snarky sarcasm mixed in.
I leave it up to you to figure it out!

Thanks.

Sorry but I am unable to take any NSAIDs at all....OTC or RX.
Bad, bad side effects from all of them....not to mention they never helped anyway. Long story....goes back 30 plus years.
