Bad smelling air when first put mask on

Post by jlsmithseven » Mon Sep 18, 2023 7:21 pm

Long story short …a few weeks ago I forgot to fill my humidifier tank with water when going to bed . First time ever in 2 years.

Anyways I woke up to a horrible burning smell that was awful.

Now two weeks later, whenever I get ready and put my mask on, some of that smell lingers. I’m using a new air fit p10 mask but the same tank and hose. What can I do?

Try turning on the machine several minutes before you go to bed and put on the mask.

Change the water tub and hose. The smell may be coming from the plastic. When you ran out of water, the humidifier kept heating. It's like having an empty pot on a hot stove.

This has happened a few times with my Dream Station 2. I usually wash the humidifier tank with Dawn dish liquid and warm water followed by a cold water rinse and open air dry.. For the hose I put a couple drops of Dawn in it, loop it so I can fill it with warm water, and then work the ends of the hose to 'slosh' the water around. Hose gets a flush of cold water and hung to dry. Smells nice and fresh after.

After washing, a capful of vodka in the rinse water kills any nasty smell.
