Where can I buy a mask without a prescription?

Post by DadscreepyCPAPmask » Tue Jan 04, 2011 12:39 am

Is it even a possibility?

http://secondwindcpap.com/

http://www.directhomemedical.com/

I've bought masks from both these places and was not asked for a prescription. I particularly like SecondWind because the guy there will respond to email questions very quickly and thoroughly--I like them so much that I just ordered my backup/travel machine from them.

eBay doesn't technically permit auction of masks. Some sneak through their system but you're better off with craigslist, secondwindcpap, etc.

You can buy a mask without an Rx ANYWHERE. All they need to do prior to shipping is take off the hose coupling or something so that it becomes a kit.

All great ideas! And all illegal, of course.

Granted, you aren't likely to get busted for it, but buying, selling, giving, receiving or even possessing prescription items without one is against the law.

And openly discussing ways to skirt the law isn't really a good idea, (not to mention it jeopardizes this forum!)

And, I have to wonder, why doesn't a legitimate CPAP patient have a 'script? All it takes is a phone call to the doc...

I have a script, thanks for your concern though My insurance only allows for one mask and headset every 6 months. I have been on CPAP for about 6 weeks now and I was thinking of getting another mask as a back up.
I originally started with a Swift FX that I gave up almost immediately for a Mirage Micro. I got a loaner Swift FX from "SleepnationTv" again and it has been much better this time around. I think I just needed the large pillows instead of the mediums. So I am looking for a Swift FX for a reasonable price without going thru the DME.
As far as breaking any real laws, you make me laugh

Then why ask the question you asked? For a "friend"?

Actually, I was speaking to the other folks who were openly discussing ways to circumvent the law, which violates the User Agreement.

Sorry if that offends you.

Where can I buy a mask without a prescription
I have a script,
I have been on CPAP for about 6 weeks now and I was thinking of getting another mask as a back up.
So, if this last statement is true, AND you have a prescription, you can legally get another mask anywhere you wish.......even from your own DME.

The real issue is whether or not your insurance will pay..........and it will not, according to you. So buy where ever it is most cost effective for you.......

Hi,

Money is a factor for me. The clinic that I work with is very good, but they will not issue a prescription renewal without seeing the patient. State law here now mandates that CPAP prescriptions expire after 1 year. It costs $200 for the data download, $400 to have a specialist read the download, then $150 for the appointment to get a renewal. I simply wasn't going to pay that when I am doing very well right now. As a result, I went to the black market to get a new mask. I found people on E-bay selling parts, and I E-mailed a few of them asking if they sold entire masks. I found all kinds of options. Also, someone reading the forum here sent me E-mail with an offer. I guess I am willing to whatever it takes to get the machines and masks so I can keep up my treatment.
