I was told that at some point you will close your mouth so youll get a little therapy when that happens.

LOL, good replies.

It only makes the therapy useless if you're using a nasal mask. Switch to a full face mask.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Good call with the Full Face Mask.

However, if you don't want to use a FFM, then using, or turning up, heated humidity will help with this as well.

It might and also too much humidity could cause more congestion and make the mouthbreathing worse.

Stop with your filthy lies! Kidding.

Not really congestion. More like excessive drippy snot. Using over the counter Saline Spray prior to going to sleep can help with that. All my patients use the PR System One with super smart super awesome humidification. It shuts off before a monsoon is created in the nose.

Finding the correct humidity amount is important.

Some people might. I wouldn't. My mouth would hang open all night along. I'd be mouth breathing all night long. And...since I use nasal pillows (not a FF mask)... I'd be losing therapy pressure out my mouth. All night along.

Its okay to breathe out of your mouth if you are using a full face mask. But if you are breathing out of your mouth using a nasal or pillows mask, you are getting little or no therapy. You have 2 choices here, either buy a full face mask or do a search for tape and poligrip strips. I am a mouth breather too, so I use a Respcare/innomed Hybrid, has a mouth piece and nasal pillows..........with no forehead piece....love it!
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

How would increasing the humidity keep someone's mouth closed

The theory is that if your nose and throat get dried out and irritated, you will open your mouth reflexively to get more air. Or your nose may clog up due to dry air, making your reflexively open your mouth.

I don't know if I really believe it, but it's worth trying.
