The Lone Ranger had bad OSA and used CPAP. His mask was leaking really badly, so he cut himself a cushion from his dead brother's vest and wore it under his CPAP mask. It was so comfortable that he forgot to remove it one day. He went outside and coincidentally stopped a robbery and was surprised when people asked "Who was that masked man?"

The rest is history.
