Nasal Hybrid Mask alternative

Post by SleepingBetterCPAP » Mon May 20, 2013 4:10 pm

I've done the full face thing and also the Nasal Hybrid. It's time for a replacement so I'm trying to see if there is any similar alternative to the Nasal Hybrid that works the same.

Positives:
-I think the nasal pillows have helped keep my airway open better
-small/not bulky

Negatives:
-Very sore nostrils
-a lot of leaks even with tight straps

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

How about trying traditional type of Nasal masks like these:

Or

Mirage™ SoftGel Nasal CPAP Mask With Headgear:

If you use these kind of masks the main issue left is the mouth leak. Can you keep your mouth shut?

I really like mine which should be in my signature. It's a Zest nasal mask. I couldn't do pillows because of my high pressure and full face wasn't for me.

Hybrid is technically a full face mask.
What do you mean?
Are you looking for a mask that does NOT cover your mouth? (nasal)

The Hybrid mask looks and feels "chip":

Parts are coming apart if you just touch them. The anti rebreathing leaf is thinner than newspaper paper.

Actually, after reading Ozi's recent post saying that she is happy with the Hybrid mask I am going to try it again, and if I get nostrils problems from it I'll then alternate the Hybrid with the Resmed SoftGel nasal, i.e. take turns.

no I do need a full face. I am a mouth breather.

no I am, hence why I need a full face mask.

I've been using the Hybrid since May 15th. I'm a mouth breather. So far so good (knock on wood) no nasal problems. My pressure is 13. I'm sleeping better and longer with this mask than the traditional full face. I've been lucky so far and the mask is holding up and the headgear is superior IMO to that of the Mirage Liberty which is also a Hybrid type mask. I used the Mirage Liberty for about 30 days prior to this mask and had no nostril issues. If you tend towards nostrils issues I don't know what to tell you. I've had no nostril issues with either mask but then I've only had the Hybrid mask for one week. I hope my info is of some help to you.

Try a different size nasal pillow maybe???
Also..consider Rooster's tights modification to help secure the nasal pillows without using tight straps...tight straps means the nostrils will be sore.
Look at the various ways the red strap is used to stabilize nasal pillows...works with any nasal pillow system.

In the "hybrid" full face mask category...2 choices...the ResMed Liberty or the Innomed/Respcare Hybrid.

The Oracle might be a something a person might try if they can't use their nose at all.

Like pugsy says, sometimes the Hybrid needs some extra help.
If I didn't use a light elastic strap across the pillows I would have to jammed the existing straps too tight. I have been using this mask for the last 3 years.
