Brand name confusion
Brand name confusion
I am confused about the use of the names RemStar, Respironics, System One, Philips- I am shopping for a new machine exactly like my old one: Philips Respironics RemStar Plus CFlex System One, but when I check, say, Craigslist, I cant tell what's for sale, even with a picture I'm not sure what I'm looking at. If you are sympathetic to my confusion maybe you can help me educate myself. Thanks

Re: Brand name confusion
Philips Respironics is the manufacturer's name. (Philips bought Respironics a few years ago.)
System One is the current generation of PR machines. (The previous generation was the M-Series.
Before that was what is called the Legacy or Tank machines.)
There are two different series of System One machines.
The 50 Series is the original series. It has cream colored panels.
The 60 Series has a few additional features, the most significant of which
is the optional integrated heated hose for the humidifier. This hose
is not compatible with the 50 Series humidifier. The 60 Series has dark silver panels.
The Plus is the basic model within each series. It has C-Flex, but no
efficacy data. The 50-Series Plus is model 250. The 60 Series Plus is
model 260. The model number is on a label on the bottom of the machine,
usually after the letters "REF", or possibly "DS".
REMstar is meaningless. PR has used that name for virtually every machine
they have ever made. And while REMstar is used in the official names of the System
One machines, it does not appear anywhere on them.
The mention of C-Flex in the name is not necessary. Every Plus has C-Flex.

Personally, the names Tom, Dick and Harry, always confuse me, they should be changed to make them less alike! Jim
After that maybe Ford, Chevy and Dodge, what's behind that?

Judging from your avatar, maybe you should avoid using the word "behind".

For a very detailed guide to the PR family of CPAP machines you can check out my Newbie Guide to PR machines
And for what it's worth: A Pro may cost you a few more $$$ used than a Plus, but in the long run having the efficacy data is worth it.

Re: Brand name confusion
You don't want a "Plus" it is a brick. Find one with "Pro" in the name.
