Vent: Ugh..bad taste in my mouth from another board..

Post by oak » Fri Aug 23, 2013 2:20 pm

I just got a bad taste in my mouth from another board. The moderator of another board tried to tell a poster who was new to CPAP that they were the best board out there and they were not like other boards, and that "their" approach was different, that they didn't try to tell people what was best for them but others did, etc. I made a comment, and another moderator of the board said all they were saying was just "fact," and that they weren't being hostile, etc.

Well I wasn't born yesterday; it WAS hostile, albeit veiled hostility, and totally unnecessary, IMHO, and I told them so.

Why do people who say they are trying to help people get so uppity? I have gone on 3 boards for apnea and all three have pros and cons. None of them is perfect.

I think you will note the sponsors of the boards, . . .
Of course, our sponsors also sell cpap equipment.
Well, maybe the others are directed toward working with people with insurance; that might be it.

Bad taste, yeah, monarch butterfly; beautiful, thought it would be awesome--not so much!

I bet I can guess which board this is. If so, they're part of the medical mafia and are very interested in protecting their turf.

They do have some good information and smart people on that board though. Just realize their motives aren't the same as yours.

Everything in this life is subject to opinion. "One man's ceiling is another man's floor". For instance, although I know that sleep apnea is a real thing, I thing the field is full of hacks. Both the sleep study doc and the DME I dealt with are both sucking on the insurance tit, and are probably in cahoots, as far as I'm concerned. This is just another niche for hustlers like them to occupy. "Trust, but confirm", is my best advise.

The hair on my arms stands up when a moderator professes to be the speaker for an entire forum. Doesnt matter what kind of forum.

"You will listen to me.......I am God."

And then on top of it, trying to say that "they are the only forum" that does this or that...when its clearly untrue..

Dont get me started again

Oak, I read your posts on that other forum and I kind of thought you were being overly contentious and rude.

Just my observation, take it or leave it.

Absolutely!

We need to settle this by Naked Wrestling in the Jello Pit!!

I know of two other boards who try to help people just as this one does and none of them are perfect. We are all human and all make mistakes. I might add that I think that people on all 3 boards I am aware of sometimes give bad advice. Most are well meaning....

NormaSleep,

Nothing like taking a cheap shot at someone.

Personally, I think Oak has been very supportive in her comments on all the boards. I did disagree with something she said on another board but she was very respectful in her response and not rude at all.

I did find the thread that Oak is referring to and I am speechless. Anyway, not to minimize the contributions of everyone on this board but they don't have Pugsy So with Pugsy and all the other great posters, we're the best board:)

Really, the argument about who is the best board is really absurd. I just don't understand the need to tear down other people to make yourself look good.

There really are 3 other boards?
--but this is the only one not controlled by the "industry"?

I was too, because I found Oak's posts here to be kind and helpful. But she went totally out of character in attacking that other forum.

I suspect she was just having a bad day. We all do. It's to be expected with sleep apnea. No offence intended.

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my previous post. When I said I was speechless, I meant I was taken aback by the responses that Oak received. I did not mean to be critical of what she did in any way shape or form.

I have to respectfully disagree that she attacked the other forum. I thought the issues she raised were quite legitimate.
