Philips System One ran with no filter

Hello. I'm four months on CPAP and first time here. Seems like a great community.

I'm using a Philips System One machine and ResMed Quattro FX mask. Last week I found that the filter was not in place on the machine. I believe my cat got to it sine I saw her on my nightstand behind the machine a couple of times. Anyway, I inserted a new filter and am now wondering if running without a filter for a week or so can damage the machine.

You definitely did not damage the machine. It would take months of running w/o a filter to damage it.

Take out the filter, disconnect the hose, and let it blow full blast for a minute or two to blow out any loose dust you can.

Probably no real damage. The only damage I'd expect would be a slow accumulation of dust over time. A short time shouldn't hurt unless a big chunk of something gets into one of the sensors or something.

The PRS1 filters pop out too easily. You can even blow them out if you cough into your mask. Some people put a rubber band around the machine to hold it in.

It is possible that running the machine with a very dirty filter would harm it quicker than no filter at all.
I change my filter when it looks grungy, about once a month--right after I flip the calendar page over.

I found that putting a piece of the hook side of some sticky-backed Velcro
on the "ceiling" of the filter recess keeps the filter in place. With it
in place, I cannot blow filter out. If you use the Velcro, put the top edge
of the foam filter in first and then slide in the bottom. You won't be able
to slide the foam against the Velcro. And don't put the Velcro on the "floor"
as it is ridged and the adhesive won't stick well.

I can't speak as to whether this would stop a determined kitty.
