Obamacare Creepy: Agents May Visit Your Home

Post by Space Oddity » Thu Sep 26, 2013 3:25 pm

As a veteran, I am upset by this. Yes, it is talking about "eligible" families but a lot of decent veterans have problems and become "eligible".

This is outrageous.
Knock! Knock! Who’s there? Obamacare! Obamacare who? Obama cares so much we just wanted to make sure you weren’t smoking in there!

We’ve read the bill! We’ve found out what’s in it! And we hate it! President Obama’s Affordable Care act is a gigantic intrusion into people’s personal lives, possibly even more than his unconstitutional domestic spying programs. A provision in the bill has been made to give a grant to states and agencies that perform “evidence based home visits”. Presumably they would be done in order to confirm a citizen is complying with health regulations.

The grant guidelines don’t say specifically what the home visits are for. They do say who would receive home visits. Ask yourself if you fall under any of these guidelines that would get you a knock on the door from a government “Nurse Ratched”.

From CainTV:

a) Eligible families who reside in communities in need of such services, as identified in the statewide needs assessment required under subsection (b)(1)(A).

b) Low-income eligible families.

c) Eligible families who are pregnant women who have not attained age 21.

d) Eligible families that have a history of child abuse or neglect or have had interactions with child welfare services.

e) Eligible families that have a history of substance abuse or need substance abuse treatment.

f) Eligible families that have users of tobacco products in the home.

g) Eligible families that are or have children with low student achievement.

h) Eligible families with children with developmental delays or disabilities.

i) Eligible families who, or that include individuals who, are serving or formerly served in the Armed Forces, including such families that have members of the Armed Forces who have had multiple deployments outside of the United States.

So if you meet any of these requirements above, then you just might receive a visit to verify your behavior. Excellent! We won’t be able to smoke in our homes. Maybe one day they’ll just skip the home visits altogether and lock us all up in a hospital for our own safety and protection? The only bad part is, we won’t be able to smoke.

It's SO easy to publish misleading articles. "Evidence Based" is a medical term. Your doctor UNDOUBTEDLY practices, at least some of the time, what is known as "Evidence Based Medicine".

This article took that term and is using it to try and scare people in to thinking it means they're going to visit your house to gather evidence! That's not even CLOSE to the truth.

Go Google Evidence Based Medicine ... there's tons of information about it. I'm not for or against it, but I can tell you it has NOTHING to do with the ACA other than as a guideline of how medicine is already practiced.

I am new - but this is a joke, right?

"Home visits" are in-home health care by a licensed home care agency's nurses, therapists, or home care aids for clinical purposes. Anyone who thinks this is for tracking your behavior or otherwise is completely unfamiliar with anything to do with health care or health insurance and is not a credible source for anything. The only thing they will provide is crackpot "disinformation" and paranoia. Please correct this for anyone who is duped by this type of ridiculous material.

Do you guys have a clue of what you are talking about? Or are you just exhibiting the standard Obama sycophant knee-jerk reaction by denying that there is a single thing bad in Obamacare?

When I actually look at ACA, http://www.hrsa.gov/grants/apply/assist ... mental.pdf , I see things like,
home visiting should be viewed as one of several service strategies embedded in a
comprehensive, high-quality early childhood system that promotes maternal, infant, and early childhood health,
safety
and development and strong parent-child relationships.

home visiting should be viewed as one of several service strategies embedded in a

safety

high-

communities.

of vulnerable populations by envisioning child development within the framework of life course development
and a socio

environmental factors as underlying contributors to poor health and development outcomes for children, as well
as to persistent inequalities in the hea

That sure as heck sounds to me like a nanny government is going to go into people's homes and attempt to control their behavior.

That is not what this country is about!!!!!!!!

Just responded to this in another forum, so not feeling inclined to invest much more time, energy or brain cells to it. Accountability through the threat of home visits is one fraud prevention measure. And there are clearly circumstances where home visits may be an effective preventative or even life saving measure. Not every situation requires a trip to a facility and home visits can save the life, health and sanity of recipients and their caregivers in some cases and prevent expense of traveling to a facility when a home visit would suffice. This has nothing to do with Obama. Allowing or requiring home visits when utilizing a government funded program didn't start with this presidency and won't end with it. Current plans will incorporate existing procedures, so one would have to do a lot of research to see which ideas are new or already in practice. Forty years ago it was REQUIRED by all Medicaid recipients to submit to regular home visits by a case worker or forfeit the benefits. If you didn't want the home visits - fine. Go support yourself. Of course, anything can be taken too far when there are no clear restrictions to the power. But I'm not getting all up in arms over something that seems to me to be nothing new.

Yes, I have been a health care and hospital administrator for 40 years and I know what I'm talking about.

The point made by another poster about "evidence-based" medicine is exactly right; third party payers and tax payers should not be paying for things for which there is no "evidence" of efficacy. So, where are the scientifically controlled studies that show CPAP improves health status? If it doesn't help, then we shouldn't be paying for it; if it works, we should. Show me the studies that chiropractic does any good; if the studies show it, then it should be paid for; if not, no money should be paid for it. If you are reacting to the idea of "evidence" as collecting evidence of a crime, that just shows how little you are aware of the reforms that are being made to save tax payer money in Medicaid and Medicare programs.

As for home visits, one of the big pushes in reform is to prevent re-hospitalization by having good home care visits for folks who've had hip surgery or other surgery so they just don't wind back in the expensive hospital. Think about it, what is more expensive - having a nurse or physical therapist come to your house to get you walking again or for you to lie in a hospital bed for 24 hours with all the attendant expense? Home health agencies make thousands of visits to Medicare patients in your community every year and public health departments do the same for poor mothers with newborns.

If you want to talk about invasion of rights and privacy, how about the states and governors who want to stick ultrasound wands up women in order to interfere into their child-bearing decisions? That's what I'd call a home visit if you want to throw sloppy terms around and accuse the government of being where it is not needed or wanted.

How about it? It is the same thing as creepy government healthcare agents visiting veterans- government tyranny.

BTW, This just came a few minutes ago in my FB newsfeed from a friend:
WOW.... I just got my new health care insurance bill starting in 2014 and it is going up by about 4.5 times. I sure hope there is some mistake and the company, Blue Cross/ Blue shield will issue some retraction. At present we have a very high deductible and the plan is $275 per month. They say they tailored a new plan under Obamacare provisions which closely match what we now have. And the new premium is $ 1,291 per MONTH (not quarter). I'm waiting for answers from my agent.

The moderators need to delete this thread now!! Politics has nothing to do with apnea. Board users will end up hating each other....some for, some against, some republican, some democrat. Politics doesn't mix well with anything.

Besides, they ain't gonna pass a budget unless Obama delays it a year anyway!
