I would be happy to respond to you but would feel more comfortable if I knew a bit more about why you are asking the question. Are you a medical professional by any chance because it seems in the past, they are the ones who have asked similar type questions.

One thing you might want to keep in mind is that many people have had very unsatisfactory experiences with their sleep doctor and in fact were given incorrect information.

Additionally, I wish I had a nickle for every time a poster said they were non compliant with their therapy until learning from experienced members on this forum as to how to get themselves on the right track.

Correct me if I am wrong. You are saying that you have no difficulty rationalizing the fact that you practice medicine because you are doing it 'With good intentions'. Is that what you mean?

Many times, it seems like the "amateurs" know alot more than the experts.

I am very familiar with this argument. This is the same argument that was used in the practice of staffing the reactor at Chernobyl right up until an explosion wiped out middle management. I do not take issue with others questioning the 'So called Experts'. What I take issue with is people who practice unlicensed medicine while using these arguments as justification. Would you be happy if we simply had no laws regarding the practice of medicine? Would that effectively do away with the so called experts you seem to have such a problem with?

And if the medical professionals are doing such a good job, why is the compliance rate at 50% after one year and why does it become even lower after that?

That is a very good question. I suspect that this question will go unanswered untill the day when you become a physician. Then you can learn the answers to this question first hand instead of trying to use the question itself as fodder for an argument that you are doing nothing wrong.

And why are people going through several sleep doctors to find one? One forum member is on number 4 and someone else who I have corresponded with privately didn't hit the jackpot until number 5. I will be looking for number 3 if I decided to consult someone.

Has this person tried a sleep doctor outside of America? Would there be a difference in treatment? Is this person clinically insane? Are we all? These questions could very well go on forever and encompass every aspect of civiliazation. We could even discuss the economy and the effect it plays on health care. But unfortunately using a question as justification is yet another example of.... A fallacy.

I have to agree with this, a big asshole. A doctor who treats mental health problems, I would probably advise.

People are not practicing medicine, but they are sharing their experiences (very often learned the hard way) and education - formal or not - on many Cpap/Osa related subjects the same way as anyone else in cyberspace does on whatever subject is up for grabs on a given day. No one is saying the advice must be followed, and the majority of us seem to be adults who decide for ourselves what to believe. If you don't like the forum, there are very many other places to go a harrass someone... feel free to do so.

Since I don't have health insurance, I am looking forwarded to the assholes harnessing me with Obamacare since I am starting to get cataracts and have other health concerns that I have held off addressing due to not having insurance.

Why does one necessarily need "workarounds"? While admittedly this whole thing will take a while to settle out, there will be plenty of opportunities for motivated individuals to create needed, high quality services.

For instance, with competitive bidding and reduced reimbursement, live-person DMEs are becoming a rarity.

In order to fulfill this need, why not create a Sleep Disordered Breathing Specialist, versed in xPAP adherence? Put together a 40 hour course based on CPAP Basics and off you go.

(Yes it can be done. A 40-hour course is what PSG Techs get.)
