CPAP Noise is back

Hi all,

We had posted a few months back as we were facing an issue with the squeaking noise of my husbands Cpap machine. After complaining to Philips they sent the machine back to the US and it came back fixed and as quiet as ever.

Now that we purchased a new mask (same as before, Amara Gel) the moment we installed the new mask they machine started making a loud noise again. It is not as bad as it was but the flow of air sounds much louder than previously and it kept me awake. We removed the filter and it helped a bit but it feels like the noise is still loud. I feel bad for keep complaining to Philips but these issues surely shouldn't happen this often right?

Did anyone make a similar experience? I would appreciate your advise as usual.

Switch back to the old mask and see what happens to the noise.

I recommend keeping a spare mask on hand at all times. Obviously, that one was damaged, so it was not a suitable spare. However,m you should have kept it anyhow for parts. Also, when did you last replace the hose?

BTW, the biggest culprit for noise on the DreamStation appears to be the humidifier door. Please make sure that the tank is properly placed, not cracked, and that the door is shut securely.

Alternatively, is it noisy without the humidifier?

I have found the mask can make a big difference with my DreamStation noise level too. I haven't figured out why yet, so thanks for posting.

Thanks so much for the comments. We will check the humidifier for sure. We are not using it but it is connected.

We have replaced the hose a few months back. Should we get a new one?

In terms of the noise it sounds like the machine is working harder generating more air than before which is strange as the pressure is the same and the mask is the same model.

If it is the mask what could it be? I am so desperate once again.

I will make sure to post if I can find the solution.

I have spoken to Philips and we will give back the machine and mask to see where the problem lays.

I will keep you all posted in case we have some useful information to share.

disconnect the unit from the humidifier and see if it still makes the noise. Then see if there is water in the tubing. It could be that you need to decrease your humidifier setting or insulate the tubing :)

Another noise source can be the silicon seals inside the humidifier: one on the air intake from the main unit, and one on the inside lid of the humidifier. Make sure they are both seated well. See information in the humidifier manual on page 7.

Thanks so much for all the replies. We will try all the suggestions and I will give you an update on how it goes.

Since my husband is travelling a lot it has been very difficult to get used to the machine. I feel that he is struggling as well and many times he 'falls asleep' on the couch but I think it's because after all this time he is still not 100% comfortable with the machine. Sighhh

My Dreamstation makes a slight squealing noise when I have the extra filter attached to the foam one.

I take the filters out, and quiet once more.
USED to be on DreamStation..now on S9 VPAP ADAPT

I wouldn't want to go without any filters for very long.
They are there mainly for protection of the inner workings of the machine more than for your benefit.
Keep dust and dirt from making it to the inside of the machine and gunking up the motors and sensors inside the machine.

So with Respironics machines...the white fine filter is optional but the dark gray/black foam filter is supposed to be used at all times.
So you don't just have to use both but a person should at least use the foam filter.
