ResMed Setting for Mask Type

Post by Allessio77 » Mon Mar 12, 2018 9:23 am

I took a nap the other day and used my Dreamwear instead of my usual face mask. I forgot to change the setting on my Rez...and I woke up with a headache. (I will not make this mistake again.) But it got me thinking....

What does the setting actually change? What is it adjusting for? Does the machine use a different algorithm for each type of mask?

The mask type is probably not related to therapy--maybe recording data.
P-R has "mask resistance numbers" --same deal.
Mask volume, maybe, but no real proof.
Other companies have no such settings--makes me think . . .
IMHO, mostly BS to discourage using other companys' masks.
Your headache: just a coincidence.

There is a very minor adjustment made to the flow rate put out by the machine with each mask type setting (ResMed machines only).
So small of a difference that it is really insignificant and won't impact therapy itself.
There is also a very minor adjustment made in the generic vent rate that gets subtracted before the machine reports excess leak only.

If you woke up feeling different for some reason...it wasn't because you had the wrong mask selected.
Just a coincidence.

The actual algorithm used ....mask type makes no difference to it...algorithm doesn't change.
