Alister says hi!

Post by Alister » Wed Jul 11, 2018 9:17 am

Salutations!

My name is Alister and I am a snorkel snoozer. I am not yet 40 and live with my wife and kids in Holland (Europe, not MI).

Got diagnosed last May, AHI of 48. Same story as many of you, did not expect it to be so high and have such an adverse impact on quality of life. They got me on a Dreamstation + ResMed P10, have been using it every night for about a month now, my 90% pressure is 7.1cmh20 and went to a max AHI of 1.0-2.0 from the get go. First night I slept like a baby and definitely had a CPAP high for a few days. Now the mindfog is slowly lifting and I'm starting to feel better physically too! Last few weeks I have developed a nasty soreness in my ribs (front and back), as I read here this happens a lot.

Found this great forum with loads of knowledge, I hope I can make some useful contributions!

Welcome!

We have some other Dutch users here and, I understand, there is an active CPAP user group over there. I alerted one of their members to comment here.

Hi @Alister, here is the famous Dutchman, Arie Klerk aka as Mr. SleepyHead in the Netherlands. That is because I promote SleepyHead in our ApneuVereniging.
Maar we kunnen gewoon Nederlands praten, toch? Ben je lid van de ApneuVereniging?

You Netherlanders ain't foolin' nobody. We all know that you speak better English over there than we do in America, so you can all do just as well in English forums as anybody else. So stick around here and don't go trying to hide behind some sea wall over there, OK? We are aspiring to be more international, and you can help us.

Welcome anyway, Alister!

The rib soreness is probably due to the fact that you're tossing and turning a lot less that you used to do. You body will adjust over time.

I was using straight CPAP and developed intense pain in power ribcage, making taking a deep breath nearly impossible. At the suggestion here (-SWS if I remember correctly), I got my sleep doc to loan me an APAP -- wow, big difference, prompting me to buy an APAP (2009). I still use exhalation relief.

Welcome!
