Rainout is when you are using a heated humidifier and start getting water in your hose. It's caused by the steamy air coming from the humidifier at a higher temperature than the surrounding room air, so it cools on the way to the mask. While it leaves the humidifier as "humid air" when it cools, it reaches the mask as "water" and you get a damp face.
People use a heated hose or a hose cover to help resolve this problem, or turn the heater on the humidifier down so that it is closer to room temperature.

Oh no! She saw through the masked rainout bandit alias!
Yup, although I hope tons of people say "thats good but what about X" and edit it and other terms up to much that it's one huge community thing.

I'm fairly new to this CPAP thing and am learning all the time. I'm really glad to hear about "rainout." This whole time I just thought I was periodically drooling all over my face as I slept. I've noticed water droplets in the tube upon waking, but never made the connection.
