sound proofing the cpap machine
sound proofing the cpap machine
i have a complaint that when i am under the mask and being very asleep, my cpap machine makes noise.
i have had the machine checked out within the past month and it is ok.
is there some ideas to sound proof the machine from around the bed area?
is towel under the cpap?
a box to hold the cpap with holes for air intake?
thanks in advamce.

Focus on placement, and use white noise if necessary.
I put my machine on the floor right next to my bed. It is fairly close, so most of the sound is attenuated under the bed.
When I went to my sister-in-law's, she had a chair in the corner. I figured...great, put it behind the chair, it will be silent. WRONG! The enclosed space tremendously amplified the sound. It was LOUD. Put it back on the floor next to the bed, same as at home and no more problem.

I have always used my electronic air cleaner to provide just enough white noise in the background, and with the CPAP unit next to the bed and about 6" off the floor .......... works very well.
I wouldn't want to block out "everything", it might be important to hear some things, such as a smoke alarm.

"White noise" is great. I use a fan blowing over me each night and can hardly tell my APAP is on. Also, you might consider getting a much longer hose and place your CPAP on the floor. There have been several threads about placement of CPAP, silencing them, soundproofing, etc. Ya might wanna do a search and see what you can find.
Good luck.

Once I heard of a guy who drilled a hole through the wall and put the machine on a shelf in the adjoining closet...

In days of olde (when typewriters were used!) the typewriters were set on top of rubber mats which acted as a sound buffer.
Maybe consider a GOOGLE product search for "typewriter rubber mat" to see if one could be found.
Sure wish you success in a solution to the problem.

A $10 20 in box fan from Wal Mart fixes the problem and feels kinda good too.

In the 80's, a friend had this problem and I made her a plywood box lined with fiber egg cartons to place over the machine. It had a small slot in front for the hose and a free-flow labrynth in back for air intake.
That machine sounded like an air compressor! The egg carton idea was hers, picked up from a friend with a recording studio.

Putting on the floor or under the bed is the idea that I have heard the most. But be careful--I once did that and my machine smelled like bug spray for a month. The previous owner must have sprayed for bugs around the baseboard and we had just moved in and most of our furniture had not arrived. It took a lot of cleaning and a complete filter replacement before my machine smelled normal again.
Hope that helps.
