Waking up

Post by Babbie » Thu Jun 08, 2006 11:54 am

Does anybody else do this or am I the only one?? Every now and then I'll wake up (it was 4:30 AM today) and feel so rested and refreshed, like it's time to get up (although the clock says differently). Does this mean my body is getting really good rest or what's the deal??

I have woken up at around 2:00 AM the past couple of nights feeling wide awake and ready to go, then I go back to sleep and feel groggy when the alarm goes off. I have no idea what it means! I've only been doing the about a week and a half.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but at least you know it happens to someone else!

Kathy,

That would be my guess...... Happens to me on occasion, too.

Hope you're therapy is going well. (sounds like it is)

MadDogz,

And, you're not alone there, either.
My theory on this is that the alarm clock wakes us up from a different sleep stage than the one when we "naturally" awakened (and felt refreshed) even though it was during the middle of the night. When we're allowed to pass through the various sleep stages, our body SHOULD feel refreshed.....but, then there's those DAMNED alarm clocks!!!

Best wishes,

Wulfman,

I never thought about it that way, but it makes sense. I guess, in a wierd way, it's also rewarding, since I've only been on CPAP for a week and a half, and probably had very little REM sleep in the last decade or two. (In my sleep study I had 0% REM sleep.)

Thanks!

Glad to know I'm not the only one who experiences this!! Isn't that a GREAT feeling though, when you wake up like that and feel like you could just jump out of bed and take on the world?? Too bad it doesn't happen at 6 AM when I actually get up!! Actually last night was the first night I've started cpap again. I had surgery on my middle ear the last part of April and couldn't use it for a month afterwards - then went for my check-up and had infection. ENT said I could go ahead and use it but posted on here for opinions - some said to do it, some said not. I erred on the side of caution and gave it a couple more weeks. Had no problems last night, other than waking up once and feeling like I was getting too much air (that's happened before---have an auto) and the Respiratory Therapist said maybe the machine thought I had a leak - and the waking feeling really, really good at 4:30.

Wow, Maddogz - 0 REM??? You must have been among the walking dead!!

Thanks, guys, nice to know I'm not the only one this happens to!!

Babbie,

Yes, 0 REM, plus pretty good oxygen desat. That explained a lot of things, like why I felt like I was reaching the point of incapacitation. Everything hit at once starting a couple of months ago, although I am sure that I have had OSA for at least 10 years, and probably a lot longer. I don't know how I made it as long as I did. I think my body finally reached the point where no REM and O2 desat were causing muscle and brain dysfunction/breakdown, if that is possible. My Dr and the sleep lab were very concerned about my health, and consequently I was able to see my Dr., have a sleep study, and get my machine in the space of 1 week. Reading some of the threads on this board, I feel very lucky, although I also didn't have to go through insurance!

Terri
