has made the noise issue pretty much moot.
In other words, your machine is mute.

Are you 100% sure this is true?

Hmmmm... on a first attempt the meter powers up and says 12.66 volts but the meter shuts down/the Z1 doesn’t come on when I plug it in. Think I’ll have to test/redo the connection between the voltage regulator and the CPAP...

I tested a battery overnight at home and it worked well. Then I went camping in the Santa Cruz mountains and it lasted through a 3 hour nap and a 12 hour night at 9 cm H2O, so basically 2 nights. Yes, we were exceptionally lazy after climbing a mountain all in one burst. The battery died in the morning after I slept in. I had two with me so it wasn’t bad. The weight of carrying two batteries was really noticeable, I’d hate to have carried that pack over a mile, I need to trim weight elsewhere or find lighter batteries or depending on what I’m doing, (and how much money I spend) both.

I do have the muffler on which OP says restricts flow, but when I look inside it is a straight pass through round foam so I can’t see how it would block the air coming through it. Between the muffler and hose cover (6ft but ordered an 8ft to cover muffler and all) my friend twelve feet away in his tent couldn’t hear the machine whatsoever so on that front I’m very happy. I’m going to test it tonight without the muffler and see how it performs.

I’m not sure why I’m getting much less time than OP, mine is the CPAP model, his is APAP. Mine is 9 cm his was using around 8? And obviously I used mine longer in one day. I’m happy with the setup overall, it’s only $65 to add more capacity.

Overall I recommend this or a similar setup. I spent what OP spent and got a much better solution than the AC battery that weighed 10+ pounds and lasted one night on my old travel machine. I might look into similar lighter batteries if they’re out there for long distance treks.

I just spent two weeks on a tidal island in Maine with no electricity. The island is accessible by 4WD at low tide; we hired someone to carry us onto the island, so no chance to recharge batteries on the island. Although less weight would be better, it is not as necessary as for backpacking. I used two 12 volt 20 AH AGM batteries. Last year, similar batteries lasted about 3 to 4 nights each with my resmed airsense 10 cpap with humidifier turned off. This year I used your circuit and an HDM Z2 and the first battery lasted 7.5 nights and the second was still going strong after 6 nights. I ran out of time putting things together, so did not use your current measuring unit. The batteries I used are: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KC ... UTF8&psc=1.

These batteries attach by a nut and bolt. There is a spark when I connect the turned off Z2, so some current is drawn when the z2 is shut off. So, most days I unbolted one lead and rebolted at night. The only change I would make is to use quick connectors attached to each battery and a switch so I wouldn't need to unscrew the battery connector each morning or for switching batteries.

So, your approach is a success. I will probably buy one of your batteries for overnight or weekend camping.

Thank you for posting this.

Perhaps I missed something - since the Z2 will run on 12V directly with a $27 cord, what special circuitry is needed?

I am planning on doing the Kilimanjaro trek early next year. Is this set up still the most uptodate or are there any modifications? Also, did you have any trouble take this on an international flight?

I do mountaineering in the Pacific Northwest and this is what I have been looking for. Thank you for posting this. Also, has anyone found other boost converters since this post. The one mentioned is not available. Anyone using a Z2 APAP at high altitude?

My Z2 does not run well on 12 volts. Z-Breath does not drop pressure and it stops intermittently.
i found a 12V to 15V converter https://www.powerstream.com/ADC-p006.htm. I purchased the PST-YD100W 100 Watts.
I have an old CP-266 battery (266 Watt Hours) after 2 nights I still have 75% remaining.

Thank you Bob. I am exploring the z2 but for now i am car camping and have a 8-40VDC in and 12VDC 6A Out and it works on my dreamstation. I will probably look for something like what you got too for the future.
