AHI Under 1... still feeling terrible

Post by besmichael » Wed Mar 14, 2018 11:51 pm

Hey folks, new here. I've been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and use a neck brace to keep my chin up, slumberbump to keep me from being on my back, MAD to move my jaw forward and CPAP with pressure 14. I'm 27, 6'2", 170. All of these things have helped, but I still have some nights of terrible sleep where I feel like total shit despite a very low AHI. Most days I still feel pretty tired, but I'm not passing out on public transit anymore. Any thoughts on why, or what else I can do? Considering MMA now...

Here is a recent night that left me feeling TERRIBLE

It isn't unheard of to have co-existing, unrelated conditions. Some that I can think of that may cause fatigue are nutritional deficiencies, parasites (yes this can still happen to you in developed countries), blood sugar-related issues, thyroid issues, hormonal issues. Get a blood test done.

I have. All of my blood tests have come back fine. Maybe I have UARS?

That could be it. I'm no expert but to me it looks like you were asleep in the duration that the data was collected considering the relatively steady respiration rate. If I am reading it wrong, do you have trouble falling asleep fast or something insomnia-like?

Please review this thread for how to post your report images.
viewtopic/t158560/How-to-post-images-for-review.html
You included a bunch of stuff that wasn't necessary and omitted some stuff that was needed.

How many times during the night do you wake up? I see at least a couple for the one night you posted.

Do you take any medications of any kind? If so, what?

What are your specific complaints? "Feeling like crap" doesn't tell us much. Is it sleepy all the time or lack or energy or what?

The most common sleep disorder - other than those directly related to breathing - is narcolepsy. Have you been tested for that?

Also, there are other less common sleep disorders. Also there are many disorders not classified as sleep disorders (such as diabetes, anemia, and many others) that can make you tired.

What percentage of people suffer from narcolepsy?

Narcolepsy affects an estimated 1 in every 2,000 people in the United States. That's 200,000 Americans, and approximately 3 million worldwide. It is estimated that only 25% people who have narcolepsy have been diagnosed and are receiving treatment.

Can take years to diagnose. Not a very likely guess. (Google) Jim

I think I would have trouble sleeping with all of that. How about filling in your equipment profile. We would like to see what machine you are using, your pressure (14 fixed?)and your mask selection .

Same! lol. That is a lot to try and sleep with. At least for me.
