OT--The TRUTH about toilet paper--and more naughty talk

Post by chunkyfrog » Wed Apr 08, 2020 5:07 pm

Most of the TP shortage is not due to hoarders, or even scalpers,
though we would like to blame/punish somebody.
The truth is there are two distinct and separate supply lines for TP.
At home, we use consumer TP--but almost everywhere else we use commercial TP.
Usually single ply, individually wrapped, not as soft--comes in HUGE cartons.
The two types are made in different facilities, and shipped, stored, and sold through
totally different chains.
Retailers did not see this coming, and never had a strategy for repackaging the "budget" TP.
And because of the price difference, absolutely NO motivation to do so.
I might hesitate at throwing out junk mail, UNREAD, if only it were FLUSHABLE

Anybody using commercial/office toilet paper at home because you have an EIN and can buy "home office" supplies on the cheap?

Not worried about TP as long as I have running water?

Seems kinda like a no-brainer.

A great deal if you already had a bidet--nothing left after the stampede.

Commercial TP? I call it John Wayne TP. Rough, tough and doesn't take *stops mid sentence before Pugsy gives me the "look" *

In an effort to keep going while this whole thing is happening many local restaurants have rebranded themselves into take out markets selling toilet paper, flour, yeast, milk, eggs and ground beef etc using the other supply chain froggie was talking about. Our shortages have all but disappeared. Several people have put up folding tables with free toilet paper and bottled water etc in front of their houses for those in need. There are others that have put out things books like kids books to exchange since the libraries are closed. The community spirit is impressive. Another person is collecting and handing out pet food items for those who can no longer afford to feed their pets. There are people volunteering to shop for their older neighbors. This time of year there is lots of citrus on trees that normally goes to waste so people are taking the time to pick their trees and are handing out free bags and boxes of oranges, tangellos, lemons etc.

Many of the fabric stores are giving away free patterns and material for those willing to sew masks. I tried to buy a sewing machine so I could help but everywhere is sold out of the basic machines. Its crazy and so surreal especially the pictures coming out of New York.

Yeah. Me, too.
Unfortunately the pond warden caught me with my tuchus hanging off the edge of the lily pad.
I'm not allowed to do that any more.

I never even thought about this. OMG. Game changer. My husband is a CPA and the head of accounting for a large non profit. He has access to all of the ordering channels for his office. I now know what we will be doing as our second to worst case scenario. Worst case is I bust out the washcloths. lol I buy them in bulk 60 at a time because I wear makeup and like a fresh one for my face every day, and I don't like having to hunt down washcloths because everyone in the house takes them. So I have a LOT of washcloths hanging around should I end up needing them.

You don't even have to be a business, just a Costco member.

Not available in my area. I mean if worst came to worst I could give the puppy dog eyes to my manager of my apartment complex to spare me a roll or two from the office. They do get shipments from HD once a week. :P
