Re: First Week on CPAP - Stuffed Nose
I don't use the built in humidifier. It''s too much trouble to keep clean. I do use a saline nasal spray,, ...and Afrin when it really gets stuffy. ENT's hate Afrin. But they use it to open up the nose so they can get their pair of pliers and flashlight up there to get a look see. During the Winter ...

Re: BOOST - Sports Oxygen
Thanks Archangle. You're right. It won't help the apnea per se. But it may enhance the exercise program for a fellow (central) apnea patient whose O2 level is low to begin with. (Mild to moderate) exercise is good. I should remark that I have no financial interest in Boost or any other industry, exc...

Re: EEG sleep device for sleepers
Here's another one for a more basic EEG-based wake/sleep detection: http://generalsleep.com/why-zmachine/ I'd be interested in one that tracks sleep stages and body position. But the price $1500-3000?? for this one or $3000-7000 for the Advanced Brain Monitoring one appears to be geared toward profe...

Re: BOOST - Sports Oxygen
Thanks Sleepy. I appreciate hearing another Engineers perspective. And I am concerned about the the issued you raised.
But I was really hoping to hear from others who have used oxygen to enhance exercise.

Yawning's effect on SaO2 Oxygen level
I have a class 2 malocclusion (over-bight, crowded teeth) and TMJ symptoms. I use a Contec Pulse Oximeter to measure SaO2 levels during CPAP usage. I just found that when I open my mouth real wide (as in yawning),...my SaO2 level temporarily increases about 5 percentage points from 90 to 95%. This i...

Re: Poll: How many need an alarm to wake up?
Don't need to now that I am retired. What a blessing. Throw the evil alarm clocks away.
We should wake up naturally at the end of a sleep cycle.
(Of course, tell thet to a youngster, who is sure the boogieman lives under his bad and wants a drink of water.)

BOOST - Sports Oxygen
I've been using about 4 squirts during my 6 min of exercise on my treadmill. So far I see an improvement in my fatigue and SaO2 levels. I get better results with a fresh can(PFSST). Toward the end(pfssssst) of the can it deteriates. A can (up to 150 PFsst's) lasts me about 4-5 weeks. My opinion : Ex...

Re: OT: Asked if I had a gun in my home during physical.
...... Jim I am a Veteran and believe me we Veterans are concerned about the issue. The VA is a government building, and no guns are allowed. Not sure about a gun in a car. I think if you do something wrong and the car is searched, they can confiscate it. This is government property. ..... But abou...

Re: Sleep Apnea and Alcoholic beverage Consumptions
I've been looking at this for a while. and found that 1 1/2 glasses of PInot Noir improves, yes improves SAO2 levels. I think it''s the riboflavonoids(or whatever). Early on the advice was that alcohol is bad. It is a CNS and Respirtory depressant But as you can tell from the other posts, it's not a...

Re: Oximetry (SaO2) and "Cold" sensation
I hear you regarding the temperature regulation concept. But what I saw appears to be unique to the temperature of the breathing air, rather than skin temp.
Anyone else observe this?
Thanks.

Oximetry (SaO2) and "Cold" sensation
I have a CMS-50(EW) Pulse Oximter With the onset of (early) Winter weather I neglected to close the window. I woke with the dilemma trying to find my (guy style) bunny slippers to forage for warm coffee. It was cold. However I Also notice that my SaO2 readings during sleep improved by about 2 percen...

Re: Respironics data inaccurate? Fire doctor?
From a former computer Doctor. <the Doctor will see you now> $40.00 for an hour with the Physician. That's cheap. If I spent 8-12 years in expensive and grueling medical school to listen to sick people complain, my rates would be outrageous. $40 for an hour? Nobody gets an hour of the doctors time ...
