High leaks

Post by quiltybe » Sat Mar 17, 2018 4:49 pm

Hi everyone, I’ve been reading posts here for sometime now and have learned a lot from all of you. But my question is, how important are the leaks as opposed to good AHI?
I have an Airsense 10 Auto with humidifier and heated hose— I use a Quattro air full mask that I think I have been making toooo tight, so last night I loosened it.. I’ve been using my machine since August and my AHI’s have all been below 1 and my mask fit has been good.. last night my ahi was 0.1 but I loosened my mask and the leak was 30.. with a leak that high does the machine still detect events?? Thanks everyone for all your help.
Bev (^..^)

Where did you get the leak rate of 30 from? Are you using sleepyhead to monitor your treatment? Sleepyhead will show you how much your mask is leaking, and when it happened. Resmed considers anything over 24 liters leakage to be excessive. At 30 liters, your machine will still properly control your OAs.

I haven’t used sleepyhead because my #’s were always good on MyAir— I check every day to make sure I’m within MyAir limits—

The 30 L/min is a 95% number which means AT OR BELOW that number for 95% of the night.
The bulk of the night I bet the leak was much lower.
Even if it was a 30 L/min all night long that isn't bad enough for the machine to just totally miss apnea events.
I wouldn't worry about it. I have had worse 95% numbers and all I had was maybe 30 minutes out of the whole night were leaks were a bit too high.

Make sure to review the youtube fitting videos for your mask. Tighter is not always better.

I’m learning tighter is not better- I just watched the video on Utube— I thought I had it adjusted to fit, then the next night it’s too tight.. one night I sleep like the dead then the next night it’s absolute crap!!! Does everyone experience that?
