Cleaning Heated Hose

Post by JWSWaco » Sat Sep 29, 2018 6:05 pm

New BiPap user. How do you clean a heated hose? If I soak the hose, wouldn’t the electrical contacts get wet? Wouldn’t this be a no no? I have read the instructions but they are not very clear. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Many of us do not clean the hose. On the few occasions I have cleaned the hose, I simply put soapy water in the hose, agitated it a little, rinsed it well, a let it dry out. The only time I wash it is after a bronchitis attack, the flu, or a very bad cold.

I use the same hose for years without cleaning the inside. Nothing but filtered air goes through the hose. I do wipe down the ends of the hose occasionally to remove body oil that comes from handling the ends.

I have used the same heated hose for almost a year. I started having sinus problems, so i decided to clean the heated hose. I took some
plastic wrap , and put it in between the connector , and wrapped just the connector a few times, then around just the top. It worked really
really well, and it helped with the sinus problem. Hope this helps.

Yeah, if you're using no water (just air) or only distilled water, I don't see any reason to bother cleaning it unless it's a new hose and you just don't like the "new car" smell. In that case, you could just flush out the inside with Johnson's baby shampoo, rinse the outside, and as long as you let it air dry throughly you should be fine.

You dry the hose completely before hooking it up again. That's why it's generally better to wash it in the a.m. and then let it dry until you go to bed. The hose is designed to be submerged.

I am in the group that washes my hose every other week. The doc says AT LEAST monthly. For those who choose not to, that is their choice of hygiene level. I know men who never wash the kitchen floor either. Their idea of clean is to just wipe spills.

Just wash it normally with warm water and a small amount of soap (I use a couple drops of Dr Bronner's unscented). Getting the wires wet is fine as long as they aren't energized when wet. Once the wires dry completely, you're fine.

Depending on where you live it may take a few days to really dry, so I would recommend having a second hose, or using a fan to blow air through it to dry faster.

I use a USB fan with an adapter, cuts drying time to a few hours:

The more that gets cleaned--the more that needs cleaning.
Exposure happens. Touch is the biggest source of contamination.
" Don't touch that--YOU'RE dirty!"

Think about it: when the plates are put away, most folks stack them--racks are space hogs.
What sticks on the bottom of one falls onto the one below it..

People who only eat off the top of their plates?

I suppose my dishwasher does the bottoms too, though

Not to mention that no one carries their plate without their grimy little fingers all over the rim underneath! HA!
