Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset - endless DRONING

Post by onthefreeway » Mon Apr 25, 2022 3:03 pm

So I'm late to the Airsense 10 party. I used my Resmed 9 Autoset nightly for almost exactly 9 years. But 25,557 hours later, it just stopped (I've had "warnings" for over a year). It did start again, but I thought it prudent to unpack the new Airsense 10 that has been sitting in my closet for 2 years. I was excited to use it. But the first night I was shocked at the whining, droning sound that follows my breathing. It was on a cushioned footstool next to the bed; I tried smothering it with pillows, cranking up the white noise machine, and putting it UNDER the footstool, but that droning is still quite audible. My husband thinks I'm nuts and can barely hear it. But it's BUGGING me like crazy. I finally had to put it as far away from me as the hose allowed. I'm thinking of putting it in a drawer next with just the hose protruding, but that would look so odd, and doesn't solve the problem if I have to use it for travel. Any ideas about how to stifle it?

And I have to wonder - is the Airsense 11 Autoset any quieter? My Resmed 9 is so quiet in comparison - just a whisper and NO DRONING. I may have to find one on the second-hand market. I also read on another board that the ResMed "For Her" models can be quieter.

Many thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions....

Sounds like you might have a lemon.
Did you check the AirSense 10 to see if it made any noise before you put it away in the closet?

I have used an AirSense 10 AutoSet and it was as silent as my S9 was silent.

ResMed must have a bit of variability on their products. I had an S9 which is noticeably quieter than my AS 10 but my recalled DS1 is quietest among the 3. Not sure if there is really anything you can do to the unit itself to make it quieter.

I'm confused by your post...what's whining the AS10 as stated in your heading, or AS11 that you said has been in your closet for 2 years? The AS11 hasn't been out that long.

I think that the reference to the machine in the closet for 2 years was simply a typo....meant AirSense 10.
That's the only thing that makes any sense.

I'd guess it's a defect as I never noticed any significant difference in noise levels when I used any of the following: S9, S8, philips system one and the Airsense 10. Moreover, my AIrsense 10 developed a high pitched whining sound when breathing after 6 months from the date of purchase. It was repaired under warranty and it's been working flawlessly for about 5 years.

A very good reason for giving any new machine a "shakedown cruise"
while it's still under warranty.

You're right! I read it over multiple times and still made that typo, which has been corrected. I unpacked the Airsense 10....not 11!

A lemon.
Happened to my Airsense S10 within warranty after about 18 months; In my country, after the Resmed reps checked it, they replaced "the blower". The S10 sounds much better now, though still not as silent as the S9.
