AHI over 10

Post by aherman18 » Sun Apr 22, 2018 8:48 am

Hi all,

Had my machine for about a month now. At home sleep study indicated 40+ events per night. Now down to 10-11. Not perfect, but better. Always had issues with congestion and allergies.

I moved the lower pressure up to 6 and top down to 12. If I go over 12, then at times, when congested, air just blows out around the mask and it wakes me up.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

Start by raising your Minimum pressure to 8 and your maximum pressure to 15. See if your ahi doesn't drop by half.

Once you go to sleep your machine goes up to near the max and pretty much stays there and the times with the clusters of OAs and hyponeas the machine wanted to go higher than the 12 you have limited it to.

Is there some special reason for the max limit of 12?

You need more max available...and you probably could increase the minimum (9 or 10 maybe) but the machine is pretty much doing that for you anyway...once it goes up it doesn't come down anyway.
In your case...for sure more maximum unless there is an urgent reason for lot letting the machine go higher.

I dropped the max down from 14 because it was blowing out the sides of the mask. I will up the max and tighten the mask and give it a try. Thanks for the input.

When you fit your mask at the beginning of the night are you using the mask fit thing where it gives you the higher pressure or are you fitting it at the starting ramp pressure? If so, what works well for fit at the lower pressures isn't going to work so great at the higher pressure once the machine has increased the pressure.
You might try anticipating the higher pressure sealing needs by fitting at a higher pressure at the beginning of the night.
Might help with those blow outs when you go over 12.

I am fitting at the lower pressures.... I'm upping the lower pressure and going to tighten the mask.

Thanks again.

Look into mask liners to tame the leaks.

Don't just tighten the mask. As Pugsy said, fit the mask while near your highest pressure so you know the seal is good.

If it doesn't work with mask liner, tightening won't help and can even make things worse... better to try a diff. mask or other size.

Tightening can cause creases--which LEAK.
A mask liner usually is a great bet for quieting minor leaks,
and is more comfortable than cranking the crap out of your mask.

Have not heard about mask liners. I will check them out if I can't get a good seal.

Thanks
