What do the chart lines mean?
What do the chart lines mean?
Please explain what the different lines and colors mean in the pressure chart, flow chart, time at pressure chart and leak rate charts. Thank you!

Re: What do the chart lines mean?
Leak rate lines....top line is total leak which is the masks expected vent/intentional leak plus any excess leak. The bottom line is excess leak only.
Your excess leaks are minimal. Very good leak management.
Pressure lines....top line is inhale and you have a second line below it for exhale since you are using exhale relief. The pressure on exhale drops slightly.
Flow chart....those vertical colored lines correspond to flagged events that happened...colors match up with the colored bars on the left side. Like red is for the snores....light blue is obstructive apnea...darker blue is hyponea
I have no idea what the various lines in time at pressure are.

Re: What do the chart lines mean?
Thank you, Pugsy. I read many of the posts here whether they pertain to my situation or not. I've learned quite a lot but haven't felt associated with my own charts. I've tried to figure out the meaning based on replies to other charts but it remained mysterious. For example, I thought my leak rate was very high, though not reaching "large leak". The only reason I did not think it was a large leak was because the caution of "large leak" didn't appear. I was thinking I should try a different mask, though the P-10 is comfortable. I appreciate your sage advice and experience in responding to me and so many others.

Re: What do the chart lines mean?
About leak rates and why your top line varies a bit...sometimes you need more pressure and when the machine increases the pressure the vent rate also increases.
Vent rate or international leak is built in to all of these masks. When using auto adjusting mode and having significant pressure changes we expect the vent rate to increase so since the top leak line include the vent rate that top line can move around quite high and it not mean much.
Now when the pressure gets higher we can also have the chance of having excess leak from mask movement. It's just a fact of life.
Especially with masks that have higher silicone to skin contact areas.
It is also normal to have some excess leak. It's just darn near impossible to have a mask fit and seal so that it never ever moves or leaks even a little bit. It would just be impossible to fit a mask so tight that it would never ever leak beyond the vent/intentional leak.
It would have to be cranked down so tight it would hurt and we couldn't sleep due to pain. Not a good idea IMHO.
These machines can compensate for some (actually quite a bit) of excess leak before it starts to degrade the therapy effectiveness.
The machines will alert us with the large leak flags when we step into the territory where it can start having trouble compensating for excess leaks. Even when we do step into large leak territory it doesn't immediately go totally down the toilet with a small step over the line. It's really a case of the further or deeper you go into large leak territory the iffier things get.
If the machine isn't flagging a large leak...I don't even bother looking at the leak line. I have to learn to trust the machine and if it doesn't think it has a problem then I am not going to add stress by looking for a problem when the machine doesn't think it has one.
And as for using SleepyHead and the statistic over on the left side...that's a SH calculation and not a machine calculation and the calculation can be incorrect when based on the wrong threshold numbers.
For machine large leak flags look at the Events graph.
and then if you see some then you can dig deeper if the time in large leak seems excessive.
Now any ,no matter the size, that wakes us up is unwanted and needs to be fixed but more from the stand point of disturbing sleep itself.
Rumor control has it that the next new version of SleepyHead is going to have a different way of excess leak calculations for the statistics on the left side of the reports. I am not a party to the development and trial of the new version so don't go asking me about what it is going to do. Worry about that later when we are using the new version.

Re: What do the chart lines mean?
Time at pressure, the green line is epap, the red is ipap, and the faint lines correspond to the same colors in the event breakdown.
The point of time at pressure is how much of the night you spent at each pressure.
for instance, OP spent a significant amount with epap up around 10-11cm... so it's likely that they'd do better with a few more cm pressure over the current 6 min.

Re: What do the chart lines mean?
Your leaks are well controlled, pretty close to the intentional vent rate of the p10 for the most part.GreenBean wrote: ↑Sat May 26, 2018 12:00 amI thought my leak rate was very high, though not reaching "large leak". Re: What do the chart lines mean?
Thanks palerider. I think tomorrow night I will try a pressure increase for a few nights to see if I can change some of my epap time. I'm finding that almost every night I semi-awaken after 3-4 hours of sleep and feel the need to breathe more deeply or something like that. I usually go back to sleep fairly quickly. I'll be curious to see if a little more pressure prevents that interruption and if that red line changes.
