Hey everyone, my name is Kevin and I started using my Resmed Airspurce 10 CPAP this past Monday. First off I want to say the results have been amazing. I have not had this much energy in years. I do want to get the opinion of the members here about something tho. My AHI from my sleep study without the CPAP was 78 events per hour! Extreme I know. Since starting my CPAP therapy my AHI has dropped to be 10 and 15 per hour. It’s a vast improvement yet my machine keeps sending me emails and texts saying I’m having too many events. I use a full face mask over nose and mouth, no leaks, and my pressure setting is at 14. Is this the best I will get from using my CPAP as far as my AHI? I’m not complaining mind you, but I was under the impression that the CPAP would stop the apnea’s completely. Any insight would be appreciated.
God bless!
Kevin R
New to CPAP, have question
Re: New to CPAP, have question
Does whatever you are looking at for your reported AHI show an event category breakdown into events?
We need to know what kind of apnea events are being reported.
It's important because if they are primarily central then more pressure won't fix things but if they are obstructive then you just probably need more pressure.
What is your pressure setting?
Did you have an in lab sleep study so they knew what pressure to use?
Are you for sure using the AirSense 10 CPAP model and not the Elite or AutoSet? This is important because the CPAP model doesn't record any data beyond AHI that could help us figure out what kind of events you are having and whether or not leaks are a problem or when the events are happening....like maybe at the beginning of the night when you might be awake and thus the events aren't real.
If you have the Elite or the AutoSet you can use SleepyHead software and see more details than what is available on the machine display or MyAir.

Re: New to CPAP, have question
Successful XPAP usage is using it every time you try to go to sleep, AHI of under 5, is the line in the sand, but most that are useful are under 2.
To measure correctly, the leak rate need to be controlled. You need to fill out your profile, IN TEXT, not ICONNY, recess is over. A better software is Sleepyhead, read the links at the bottom of my sig. Jim

Pugsy,
Thank you very much! Your information was helpful. I will dL the software you suggested and look at my details. The app and website given me does not track data that specifically! Thank you again.

Re: New to CPAP, have question
An AHI of 15 is better that 78! If that's the best you can do, it's still much better than the alternative. Remember that 15 means an event every four minutes (on average).
You should work to reduce it as low as possible, but remember that since you number is lower and you feel better, you treatment needs to be looked up as "successful."

Re: New to CPAP, have question
I am afraid that the machine doesn't gather the needed data because it is the basic model.
You can get some data on the machine LCD display.
https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf
Read the manual above and go change the setup menu so you can see on the LCD screen exactly what kind of data the machine offers.
You need to make a changes in a setting called "Essentials"....the default from the factory is for "usage" and it only shows hours of us on the sleep report. Change it to "Plus" to see whatever data it gathers. I am afraid that it won't show you 3 kinds of events but instead just a generic number.
