Newbie saying HI

Post by AnarchyJane » Mon Jun 25, 2018 10:50 am

Hi everyone.

I just got the results of my first sleep study and am waiting for the nurse to call to set up the 2nd titration study. The doctor told me my results were moderate sleep apnea and severe oxygen desaturation. The actual numbers are an AHI of 19 and 78% oxygen. They said it was worst when I was on my back and when I was dreaming. I'm just trying to stay on top of everything so that there are no delays in getting the equipment. Fortunately, I am lucky that my insurance, Aetna, covers everything 100%.

Vicky

Welcome to the forum

While waiting you might as well do some reading about what to expect and what the numbers mean.

Start here.

and more here....the machine models are a bit outdated because newer models have been released since this was composed but the basic premise is the same.

I read through that info. What are the best cpap machines out there right now? Any I should stay away from?

I called my insurance and they said they cover any cpap machine the DME suppliers carries at 100%. My choice of supplies are Apria, Edgepark, Medline, Rotech, and US Medical. I have heard to stay away from Apria.

I personally prefer ResMed machines myself but I have also use Respironics equipment."
F & P makes a decent machine as does Devilbiss but the data they collect isn't quite as comprehensive as the data that the other 2 main suppliers gather.

Avoid anything from ResMed that says "Start" in the model name. Like they offer a bare bones machine model called the AirStart that has very limited data available. You want all the data possible to be available just in case you need it.
So ResMed AirSense 10 is okay and NOT the AirStart 10.
Learn which models are full data and which aren't full data.
If you call up a potential supplier as which model (not just brand) they plan on supplying. Come back here and report which model if you are unsure about it.

Assuming that after your titration study they come up with you needing a regular cpap/apap machine and not bilevel.

ResMed current models that offer full data in the AirSense 10 model line

AirSense 10 Elite
AirSense 10 AutoSet
AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her

The AirSense 10 CPAP model....very limited data...I would avoid it and not accept it.

Respironics current models that offer full data

DreamStation Pro
DreamStation Auto CPAP

The DreamStation CPAP model...again very limited data and again I wouldn't accept it.

Not current on the other brands newest full data models. Would need to look them up.

If for some reason you end up needing a bilevel machine...all the newest models are full data and I wouldn't accept anything other than a ResMed or Respironics in a bilevel machine.
