Re: OT:::::Medicare Advantage plans "are taking over Medicare and they are taking advantage of elderly patients,"
I hope everyone here knows that almost all doctors and facilities in the U.S. accept traditional Medicare, as well as Medicare + a Medicare Supplement (sometimes called "Medigap") plan, whereas a substantially smaller subset accepts any given Medicare Advantage plan. In addition, Copays and Deductib...

Re: Why do some people hate full face masks?
So - the basic conclusion has to be: If there is no such thing as one size and one style fits all, for clothing, then its also true for medical equipment. OK. I sometimes modify shoes and boots to fit my feet, because feet aren't shaped the way typical shoemakers assume. Before I started modifying t...

Re: Why do some people hate full face masks?
XPAP machines compensate for leaks with more VOLUME......NOT PRESSURE. Basic physics: to force more air through the tubes, as well as into the nose if air leaks out the mouth, you need to generate at least a little more pressure at the machine. Which makes it noisier. I'm not certain how big the ai...

Re: Why do some people hate full face masks?
pressure is NEVER increased to 'compensate' for leaks. NEVER More pressure is used solely to open airways. But to keep the airways open, you need to have enough pressure inside your airway to open it. If a lot of the air leaks, the CPAP machine must apply more air pressure to provide the same press...

Why do some people hate full face masks?
I am a successful CPAP user - down to about one detected event / night, which is considered normal. I use a full face mask (Resmed Silicone F20) that completely covers my mouth and nose. (NOT one of the useless PR "full face masks" that don't cover both, which I also tried.) If adjusted right, it al...

I use a full face mask (Resmed F20) that completely covers my mouth and nose. It also creates a little tension that keeps my mouth closed.

Re: Recording pulse oximeters that stay on the finger well?
I use the O2Ring, worn on my thumb. It stays on very well. Thanks for the info. :D - SleepyCPAP Sleep study in 2010 (11cm CPAP). Adjusted to 10cm with pillows (Swift FX>TAP PAP >Bleep). PRS1 “Pro” 450/460 until recall, now Aircurve 10 VAuto. Tape mouth. Palatal Prolapse solved by AlaxoStent. You "t...

Re: Recording pulse oximeters that stay on the finger well?
I can set OSCAR to be more sensitive. Could you please explain how you set OSCAR to be more sensitive? I don't understand. Edit Profile -> Select Profile File -> Edit -> Preferences CPAP -> Turn on Custom CPAP User Event Flagging Note: This detects "User events", detected by OSCAR, not CPAP-machine...

Re: Cold weather camping and airsense 10
I don't know if this affects you, but the lightest batteries with a given capacity seem to be "Lithium Ion" batteries - which work poorly in very cold or very hot weather. Not only do they have reduced capacity, but the batteries may be damaged. I've had this problem with cell phone batteries left i...

Re: Getting really frustrated by noise issues: What does your ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet Sound Like
Mine is virtually silent - but I keep mine at an initial pressure setting of 4 (the minimum). When I had a defective P/R DreamStation (another type of machine), that delivered high pressure no matter what the setting, it was very noisy. No matter what ResMed says, it is worth trying your own fixes. ...

Re: Recording pulse oximeters that stay on the finger well?
I use the Wellue SleepU and it stays on my finger fine all night. The Contec CMS50F I also have that uses the "duckbill" type sensor. I tend to knock that one around a bit and get odd reading now and then. Neither are really inexpensive though. Thanks for the suggestions! The sleep clinic told me t...

Recording pulse oximeters that stay on the finger well?
I'd like reviews of of inexpensive recording pulse oximeters that stay on the finger better, than finger clamp devices like the Contec CMS50DA+ I tried, even if I turn over while alseep. In addition to staying on the finger, I prefer units that time-tag data, in a format that can be input into OSCAR...

Re: Using a CPAP mask as a Covid19 mask
Use a FF mask and completely cover the hose hole and you could make yourself ill by re breathing your CO2. I'll use a cloth mask and take my chances. I said to use somewhat permeable cloth, for that reason. The problem with the cloth masks I've tried is that I can feel a stream of air streaming in ...

Using a CPAP mask as a Covid19 mask
Using a CPAP mask as a Covid19 mask It took me a while to figure this out, but if you want a mask to protect you from infecting or being infected by others, those full face CPAP masks, that fully cover mouth+nose, might be better than a typical home-made or store-bought cloth masks, especially ones ...

Free Classes, Support Groups, supply samples, near MD & DC?
Does anyone know of a source of free classes on using CPAP, support groups, mask fittings, supply samples, etc., near Maryland/D.C.? Someone said that their hospital offers free classes on CPAP use. There is a lecture, by a sleep professional or by another apnea sufferer, folowed by an opportunity t...
