Oracle Oral cpap/Fewer sinus infections??

Post by ablemonk » Sat Nov 13, 2004 11:26 pm

After developing a cellulitis of the nostril from using Cpap-Pro, I decided I needed a full-face mask because I was having so much difficulty breathing through my nose. Saw my physician the other day because of severe nasal congestion and he reminded me that the positive pressure into the nose from the cpap machines tends to force back into the sinuses material that would otherwise drain, and in backing up it sets up fertile ground for nasal/sinus infections.
This is the fourth nasal/sinus infection I have had since using Cpap machines and nasal masks of various kinds during the past three years. These infections were so severe that in one case two 14 day courses of Levaquin were necessary to clear it up. Others were treated with courses of Tequin, Keflex and Levaquin. I have a lifelong history of recurring sinus infections but never so frequently or severely as since using cpap.
So I would suggest that anyone with a history of sinus/nasal infections consider using the new Oracle oral cpap (which I have not yet tried, but I intend to try it next).

I too am concerned about sinus infections. I dissolve a packet of Sinus Rinse (see http://www.sinusrinse.com) into the humidity chamber. (saline + bicarb) pH balanced, isotonic and preserv and iodine free. No idea if this is action undermines the warranty or not but it has so far kept me infection free.
Cheers, H
