Re: Back pain and achy feelings while on Cpap
I've struggled with back pain, particularly after starting a new medication that disrupted my sleep pattern. Like you, my pain varied in intensity and location, making it hard to find a comfortable sleeping position. I tried several home remedies, but what really made a difference was physiotherapy....

Resmed Delivers
Well I just got home from my DME after barely surviving a miserable week-end when my S8 Autoset started acting up. After nearly two years of flawless performance from the S8, it just shut down with the "check hose" warning. After much finangling on Saturday, I finally got it to work in CPAP mode but...

Re: OT: Are You More Likley To Get Alzheimers Than Not
I'd want to know if I were likely to get alzheimers and would have plans in effect for when the time came that the me who I am now no longer existed ....... even if the plumbing still functioned. I have to believe that I could adapt to any physical problem as long as my mind was still my mind. I wou...

Re: CPAP Masks - Which is most comfortable?
Are you purchasing the right size headgear when you buy the mask?
I wear a small Quattro but a medium sized headgear. I believe that Resmed's headgear come in four sizes.

Re: CPAP Masks - Which is most comfortable?
Except for my first week with the machine, I have only ever used the Mirage Quattro full face mask and find it perfectly comfortable and pretty much leak free. Perhaps that's because I have a perfect mug that grandma's always want to pinch and causes puppies to hide in shame. You on the other hand, ...

Re: Do I need BIPAP?
"I came here looking for information and guidance. Instead, what I seem to have received, at least from you, is arguments " Really? Try and remember that I don't have a problem but I did take time from my busy schedule to ensure that you were aware that the most common recommendation for new member...

Re: Thoughts on a good lubricant?
Why would you even consider dissembling that part of the mask to wash? If the fitting has been suffiently tightened to prevent pressurized air from escaping I wouldn't consider taking that piece apart unless I was hot-swapping the mask in a third world country.

Re: Do I need BIPAP?
I outlined the distinction between "centrals" and conventional apneas because you regularly referred to the frequency of your centrals and I wasn't sure if you understood the difference. My Resmed equipment does not report "centrals", just apneas and I guess that I presumed your equipment had simila...

Re: Do I need BIPAP?
Just a quick clarification based upon my understanding: An "apnea" (that's the "A" in AHI) is the complete cessation of respiratory activity for a period of greater than ten seconds. Most commonly, this stoppage in breathing is caused by the physical collapse of the airway and is regularly accompani...

Re: Thoughts on a good lubricant?
I applied teflon tape about eight months ago; It worked perfectly. Immediately the squeaking stopped, noise levels while resting really dropped, and my overall leak rates vitually flat-lined. No muss, no fuss, no odors, and its totally reversible. And I finally got around to fixing the leaking showe...

Re: Do I need BIPAP?
Regarding my centrals--I have never had a night with zero centrals. My lowest nightly index is 0.7, which has only happened twice. My highest nightly index was 13.3 per hour. The average (over 2 1/2 months) is 3.4 per hour. Regarding AHI-- the lowest I've ever gotten was 2.6 (only once). The vast m...

Re: Switching from nasal to full face mask
Your concern about rainout can be easily addressed by ensuring your blower is located below the height of your mattress (it doesn't have to be by much) such as on a night table and you loop your hose above your head such as over (or through) the headboard). This creates an arc that will ensure the a...

Re: cpap and dental decay
I use an FFM and my average pressure is 18.3 ........ no irritation encountered but here we are discussing the potential for dental decay including gum disease through anecdotal experience. Just remember that at this pressure, any mask leak will be problematic because of the increased air velocity. ...
