Some people with the hose modifications have added an inline muffler that reduces the noise.

I am looking to try the F20 mask with my AirMini.

I am VERY confused by the steps outlined.

Can the OP put the instructions in words please?

Reviving an old thread:

I bought a new mask, the AirTouch F20 with the AirMini kit (which I really didn't need).
I also bought the F20 to AirMini Connector.
Now the problem is the HumidX: no way to use humidification with this mask...until...

The F20 to Air Mini is designed to fit on the hose BELOW the HumidX so it has tabs that lock into the lower hose. I ground those off with a Dremel and the regular mask connector fit right on that piece! I superglued them together and now I have an F20 mask WITH Humidx!

ResMed is NOT happy about the mod:

Hi Michael,
ResMed products are cleared by the FDA after a rigorous process. ResMed does not support modifying any of its products and specifically discourages modifying the AirFit F20 mask in this manner. Altering devices and components goes against ResMed instructions and is considered “off-label” (not cleared by the FDA). The HumidX is not yet designed to be compatible with the F20 mask. The HumidX accessory component has been rigorously tested and validated for biocompatible safety and performance with the AirMini system. ResMed cannot guarantee the safety of this configuration, using glue, nor the potential effect on your therapy.
Thank you for your consideration in this,
ResMed Customer Care

Me:
I understand all that you say. I did this modification at my own risk to meet my needs. Remember, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone to aid the deaf, not to communicate over wires.

Notwithstanding that, I acknowledge that my configuration is "off-label" and is not approved by ResMed and the FDA. Therein lies the rub: the development of products that the public wants is often a victim to financial considerations (development, approval, testing, etc.) Someone has to be a pioneer. Someone had to take the first dose of penicillin, polio vaccine, insulin. You have the right to put "I Told You So" on my tombstone.
Note: I think that you missed that I just built a connector for the F20 AirTouch to my AirMini, which is designed to use the HumidX. The HumidX is designed for the AirMini. The F20 Airtouch can be used with the Air Mini
Both can be used with the same device but not together due to some regulatory issues and lack of testing. ResMed should know that many people modify their masks for comfort and ease of use. We are told to replace parts rather than clean them yet millions do not buy new humidifier tanks, hoses, masks or headgear on a schedule as suggested in the instructions.

There is a very good, clinical reason why the HumidX system is only approved to be used with the nasal and nasal pillows masks, and not the full face mask. The full face mask + HumidX can lead to CO2 rebreathing that is outside of acceptable standards. Your logic (F20 works with AirMini, HumidX works with AirMini, so they should both work together) is flawed. ResMed makes money selling masks and HumidX filters. Don’t you think they would sell you both if it was safe and efficacious to do so?

I know this may be an unpopular opinion here on these forums, but you should always discuss any changes in treatment with your doctor. You should always discuss any potential changes to a regulated medical device with the manufacturer and the regulatory agencies for your particular jurisdiction. And if you don’t think your doctor understands your issue or the treatment options to your liking, pick another doctor. This post above is a great example of how when you don’t know what you don’t know, you can do something with potentially unintended consequences.

With all due respect, do not make modifications to a regulated medical device.

Please tell me, if Micheal did not modify or block/remove the original vents in the F20 connector in any way, how would he be at an increased risk of CO2 rebreathing?
If any, I reckon he has increased the venting instead, cos now there are two vents, one on the F20 connector, and one on the N20 connector.

Additional Comments: Uses a Dreamwear hybrid full face mask for travel as it packs a lot flatter than the F20. But it's a little noisier.

Because he has added an inline filter, designed specifically to facilitate the rebreathing of exhaled air, into an untested, unverified, unproven modification of a precision engineered, regulated medical device. Again, do you think a company that could make more money by selling you a full face mask and a filter would want to do so, if it was so easy to just add more venting?

Have you ever had to design and test regulated medical devices? Have you ever had to sit across from a regulator to review safety and quality data for a regulated medical device? Have you ever had to recall a regulated medical device from the market because of quality or safety issues? Have you ever taken care of patients with respiratory diseases? If you have, great. Then you should know that what was described and posted above as a simple modification with a Dremel and some superglue is beyond reckless, especially when you don’t know why that type of configuration is not available, and that there is a valid and serious clinical reason why it’s not available.

As I said above, I know this is an unpopular position on these forums, but these devices are regulated for a reason. And the argument that a company is just doing things to maximize profit is completely misguided in this situation because they could absolutely make more money selling you the mask plus the filter.

Hi, I'm new here but have been using CPAP for years (currently Resmed Airsense 10 w/P10, Airmini with P10). I noticed this thread and thought I should post my experience. I found a hose adapter on Amazon that was supposed to allow using other masks with the Airmini. I gave it a try one evening using my regular P10. First, it was way noisier. Later, I woke up gasping. Either it wasn't feeding enough pressure, or not venting CO2 well enough. Anyway, before anyone tries this, just beware!

I ventured, I gained :D
I was able to machine some existing CPAP connectors so that they could be permanently attached to the HumidX HME housing. Now I'm able to use the standard hose that fits most CPAP machines. See what they look like via the link:

During the course of experimenting I was able to determine what might be the REAL cause of the Darth Vader sounds coming from the HME Housing. Tomorrow I'll try to post some photos at another link for you to see the probable cause.

That set up looks awesome. I’ve been searching endlessly to find something to use humidx with my dreamwear nasal pillows. I’m thinking I wouldn’t need the longer hose addition if a couple went from your adapter to a standard hose coupling to match up with my regular cpap mask connector.

Thoughts?

Hey! This is the EXACT thing I'm looking for. Do you have any method to scan that into a 3d printer file? I don't care if I have to pay you for the file, but it still has to be cheaper/easier than the usual cut tubing add coupler method I'm seeing now.
