Mouth breathing and AHI score

Post by Lesgreen » Wed Apr 24, 2024 7:55 pm

Does the AHI score given by a cpap machine reflect mouth breathing? For example, if it says my AHI was 3, can I be confident that I was not mouth breathing?

Mouth breathing is usually detected in your leak rates. If your mouth is dry, then it indicates you are probably breathing thru your mouth.

We don't know your mask. You can put it in your signature.

If you're using a full-face mask, mouth breathing will not affect your therapy. If not, then mouth breathing will ruin your therapy and possibly your teeth.

A lot will depend on just how much and how long in terms of duration of mouth breathing a person does as to how much it might affect the therapy effectiveness and any subsequent AHI result.

Was it 5 minutes or 5 hours???? Was it tiny amount of air escaping the mouth or a tornado coming out the mouth???
And did any of it cause a person to wake up.

AHI numbers all by themselves don't mean a whole lot.
