Need a new cpap machine

I've had my cpap machine for approximately 15 years and it's broken. Need a new one as soon as possible. Went to my doctor, he made a referral but soonest appointment is August. And they told me it would be a consult, a sleep study, another appointment to adjust cpap. I simply can't wait that long. Can a place like cpap.com make this a quicker process? Anywhere better that would help? I have United Health Insurance if that makes a difference.

What is the brand and model name of your current machine that is broken?

Do you happen to have (or can you get) a physical copy of your cpap RX?

Do you have to use insurance or is your wallet deep enough to pay out of pocket without insurance involvement?

Places like cpap.com will require a copy of the RX plus they don't file insurance in lieu of payment.
There are a few online sellers who will file insurance and wait for insurance payment but they will still require a RX.

Private party purchase is also an option.....depending on what kind of machine you are using.

Only if you have a prescription.

A caring doctor or dentist can write you a prescription. My GP writes what I need despite never seeing my sleep study.

Unfortunately it's been like 15years, didn't think I'd ever need to keep a copy of the prescription. It's a ResMed Tango. Aparently cpap.com uses SleepMedRx to do a home test. Is that typically the guaranteed to get a prescription method online? Then you submit that to cpap.com and you buy your cpap machine? United Health never heard of either company so it would be out of network. Gotta do what I gotta do I guess. It's something significant for everyone to think of though. What's your backup when your equipment goes down. I didn't think it would be such a process. I'd say I have a mild condition. But some severe apnea sufferers could die in the mean time. All the hassle, I might just try to buy one online on ebay or something. Probably be cheaper in the long run.

There are sites that sell certified used cpaps. Is that a scary thought? Or something reasonable to consider?

What's your backup when your equipment goes down.

Most experienced users in this forum keep a backup. Each time I am insurance-eligible for a new machine, I keep my old one as a backup.

Check your local craigslist for a CPAP machine. Many people get machines and right away quit using them. Ask members here what to look for in a new machine - model name, condition, check run hours, general condition and no-smoking household.

Avoid backsleeping while not using a machine. This might lessen the severity of your apnea.

It's certainly something to consider. Please provide a link to the site(s) you are considering and include which model.
