caution optilife users with small heads
There's been discussions in the past about people with smalll heads having trouble with the very large optilife headgear. I've suffered some painful injury from a combination of the optilife headgear and foam earplugs. I have to wear earplugs to sleep. And the optilife is my mask of choice. I also h...

I second Gumby's suggestion!
After working many years in health insurance, I can say Gumby's right on target! That little 'we only allow you to exchange one mask' is crap. It's not your health insurer's policy, it's your DME trying to maximize their profits. A couple of ideas - you can ask the DME what they do with a mask that ...

how's this for making me compliant?!
My oldest granddaughter is visiting right now, and we're having a wonderful time together. This little girl is sooooo sweet. So as to not scare her (so I thought), when I set up my bipap machine at bedtime the first night, I explained obstructive sleep apnea to her, as I put it together. She was ver...

Welcome!
Hi Karen and happy to see you found us! This group is the best, and will help suss this thing out. I knew you had lost that weight, but I guess I didn't realize or read thoroughly, about your restless leg problems. I don't have that myself, but there are some here who have OSA plus RLS. I think you'...

to have or not to have cardiac cath
Good points raised. The MRSA thing is very scarey indeed. Unfortunately, some people's body build (top-heavy women, as one example) makes for problems with the non-invasive imaging techniques available. A skewed result, more often than not. In my situation, the cath was the best choice. I agree it s...

thanks for the welcome back
I've missed you guys and the support you give. It's been a wild time, but getting a little more settled. I'm trying to help somebody else on another board right now, who needs cpap help. Trying to get that person to come here, where the experts are. I couldn't answer her questions comfortably. Boy J...

recent heart cath and use of bipap
Hi all, I know I haven't been on much, but maybe this info will be helpful to those with OSA. Recently I had a cardiac cath, which turned out fine. The hospital experience was very good too. My doc and his staff were fully aware of my OSA plus arthritis and fibromyalgia. So, breathing support and pa...

GERD and treatment
I also suffer from GERD and a hiatal hernia. Due to constant insurance changes from job changes, I think I can speak from experience that many insurances will not cover Nexium. None of the ones I've had will. The cheapest proton pump inhibitor (PPI) is generic omeoprazole, the generic for Prilosec O...

don't presume screeners were issued common sense w/ uniforms
As one who had a nightmarish flight out of Ft Lauderdale on AirTran, and back, I can tell you that even though you request clean gloves, clean table, etc, you won't get it there. They even picked up my purse and dumped the contents all over the airport floor! Idiots! Despite my requests that I would...

no sleep stages 3/4
Dr. Krakow, Do you have insight as to how/why some people have very little or absolutely no stages 3/4 sleep, and how it is affected by xpap or if it is even affected by use of xpap, I'm curious to hear your explanation. I've never gotten an answer to my question. Is the lack of stages 3/4 sleep of ...

advair and proair here
My breathing cocktail is advair and proair when I need a rescue inhaler. I've found that I only need the proair when I'm having what seems to be bronchospasms. It knocks it out very quickly for me. <Mental note to discuss the bronchospams with the pulmy next visit>. Just overall tight chest and hard...
