Nasal Pillow Vs Full Face is there a Difference in Pressure?

Post by SelfSeeker » Wed Apr 11, 2007 11:55 am

I am wnodering if a different pressure would be needed between Nasal Pillows and Full Face mask (or Hybrid).

I think with the Hybrid, my pressure goes higher. I am not sure if it consistantly or a few time coincidence or deeper sleep.

I wonder if others see this.

I would assume someone with a straight CPAP, they may get a higher AHI.

I am wondering because most people get titrated with one sort of nasal mask then may go to pillows, prongs or a FF mask. I wonder if this would change their treatment?

I have had the same question but have been told that a mask change does not require a pressure change.

I don't understand that because the pressure out of a nasal-pillow mask feels a lot different than the pressure out of a full-face mask. Since the 2 masks are so different in size, the difference in the feel of the pressure makes sense. Since the pressure feels different it seems to me the pressure is different.

Whatever the mask, the same therapy pressure will end up in your airway with one caviat. What do your leaks look like? If your pressure is going higher with the Hybrid, it's probably due to either leaks, or lack of leaks (thus ability for the machine to see more events), depending.
