The only difference I can see is that my old version sets off the leak alarm on my machine sometimes. The new shell never does that.
Have you noticed that it's easier to breath with the Hybrid mask than the Resmed full face masks? Instead of 13 with my Hybrid, I feel like 8 or 9. I feel the difference with both.

Selfseeker,

This is what I understand after talking to a few people:

Based on how flow generators (as the AutoPAPs and CPAPs are called) work, a certain pressure corresponds to a certain flow rate it puts out. The machine has to compensate for the exhaust flow rate by putting out a higher flow rate and that means a higher pressure. If the titrated pressure is already high, then the machine cannot compensate for the exhaust flow rate because there is a maximum flow rate limit for every machine (I've read that this limit is not higher than 150 L/m for most machines).

I have a feeling that the Resmed flow generators may have a lower maximum flow rate limit than the Respironics machines and that could be the reason why there is the perception that the ResMed machines don't work as well with the older version of the Hybrid.

The vent rate for the Hybrid at a pressure of 8.5 is 45. So, how can my leak rate be 42?

I read that the area where the swivel connection is attached to the shell is not supposed to be air tight. Well, mine was whistling, so I did what I read somewhere. Took thread and wrapped around in the little groove in there. Now, no air comes out of there at all and no whistling. Do you suppose the little bit of air coming out of there was factored into the vent rate and if so, that's why my leak rate is lower than the Hybrid's vent rate? I know it's not a big deal, but it's bugging me!

Yes, we need a picture of the old and new shell. I know I have the new headgear, but I didn't even know there was an "old" and "new" shell until this post.

Pam

The exhaust leak rate of 45 LPM at 8.5 cm is probably the average. But all Hybrid masks manufactured are not the same and there could be a +/- 5 LPM change from one mask to another due to normal manufacturing variation. So, you could have gotten a Hybrid that had a exhaust leak rate at the lower end of the range.

Does this make sense?

Pam, no I do not think the air coming from the swievel is factored in.At 10cm it is just uneer 50, I think.

Mine makes no noise if the there is nothing close to the exhaust holes.

I was told to set my machine to FF. I told them my machine does not have one of those. I got a call back to late for me to call back.

Well, I think my pressure is low enough that I do not need to worry about the leak rate. Will contact Respironics just incase

SelfSeeker, the M Series Auto has no mask setting and will compensate automatically for the flow rate. You're fine.
