"Funny" story,, almost forgot

Post by THier » Thu May 03, 2007 5:15 am

I went to see my sleep doc Monday,,, all and all a good guy,, wants to give me what I want and need,, of course insurance and DME feel different. ANYHOO we were talking about my "issues" masks, machines ect,, He informed me he had taken a diagnostic machine home to test for supplier,,,, and guess what,,,, doc has OSA,,, I hate to laugh,,, but the irony is funny,,, I informed him of cpaptalk.com,,, he didn't indicate wether he had knowledge of the site or not.

Hopefully, having OSA himself will make him a better sleep doctor. I hope it isn't "toooo" easy for him to adjust to so that he has a better understanding of what many patients go thru. Unfortunately, I'm sure the DMEs will bend over backwards to accomodate him which they would never do for us.

Well my issues with the DME and insurance I will have to live with. My insurance is really pretty good,, all I need to see a specialist is a referral from my Primary doc,, and she is VERY good at honoring my requests. The only problem I have had is with this OSA. Insurance only use two DME and according to my doc,, Neighbor care is the lesser of two evils. I can't complain too much,,, they have been ok at suppling masks, they are only to distibute a mask every 90days,, but got 3 from them in the first 3 months. Doc feels we can get the machine right with enough pressure,, (no pun intended)

Hey, yes it is very funny!

I guess a doc needn't have sleep apnea to know what we're going through, just as a doc needn't have diabetes or asthma or such in order to understand how people deal with that. But there is a dimension to all of this, and I do hope a doc with sleep apnea is far more understanding and helpful as a result.

However, we're all human. Where I live there's a pulmonary physician who specializes in sleep apnea and HAS sleep apnea. I thought that would make him an understanding caring individual. But he's cranky and moody. lol But a friend of mine who knows him better told me, "I don't think he's using his cpap." .... Oh well. lol
