Actually, CPAP machines are a plot by the UFO aliens, and the nightmares are after effects of the abductions, probing, and memory wipe afterwards.

Your cpap treatment is not working very well. Start troubleshooting what is going wrong. The spider thing is a natural fear programmed in people. The spider thing on your face should bring you out of sleep to wake you up and get your attention. Well it got your attention. Did you wake up and tear the mask off? How did you feel at that time?

Anytime you have nightmares and you are not on psych meds or other meds that mess with you mind or you are not having Schizophrenic issues, then you can assume that you are having some difficulty in breathing. Common themes of nightmares are things that scare the shit out of you. If you dream this stuff all the time you start getting used to the scary dreams and then they are not so scary. If you stay in a scary dream, it can get vivid and fascinating. If you are in a vivid dream, then you are O2 deprived and its not good for you and stressful on the body. Be scared and wake up and evaluate what is going wrong. Cpap use can cause your nasal passages to swell up and close and then you can't breathe very weill. If you can't breathe through your nose, then cpap treatment is pretty much useless.

Please, please, NOBODY trust this completely inaccurate information about nightmares. I realize you have no reason to believe me over this person, but a few minutes of googling should give you enough decent information to know this is way off-base.

It was posted over three years ago. Everyone ignored it then, everyone has ignored it since, and everyone will ignore it in the future.

BTW, in all your psychology studies, how many hours did you spend studying the effects of untreated sleep apnea on humans? How many hours did you spend studying the effects of CPAP treatment on humans?

Oh geez. I will make a point of checking dates from now on!

Not sure of the relevance of my lack of education Re sleep apnea or cpap to my asking people not to believe that *particular* info about nightmares ...?

I didn't claim that. You read it into my questions.

So, I should take it that neither the effects of sleep apnea nor CPAP are touched on in a masters education in psychology?

Question to symetrisg...the OPer.
Are you taking any medication or herbals for sleep? I tried Valerian root to ease my transition to sleep and found that it gave me terrible restless dreams. So consider that...
Good luck,

They were not touched on at all, nor can I recall ever seeing a continuing education course on the subject. Having my personal experience now, plus reading this forum, I think it would be an excellent subject for continuing education. It should certainly be at least mentioned in any discussion of insomnia. And I can see how the effects of untreated apnea might be mistaken as symptoms of depression. And I’m sure I’ll think of several other things on the subject now that you’ve got me thinking about it.

I had more than one client who mentioned cpap over the years. If those mentions had been in the context of adjusting to it, it would have been helpful for me to know more about it!

Sorry I read into your question. I think I got defensive because I kind of regretted mentioning my education in that post. I don’t want to come across as a know-it-all!

Zombie thread alert....... means that thread is old and it's unlikely the OP in the thread will be back.

So anyone asking a question of the OP in this thread...don't hold your breath waiting for a response...he/she hasn't been back here in 3 years.
