Re: Nightmares

I mentioned this in an earlier post of mine, and several people said it might be REM rebound. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REM_rebound Apparently if you wake up while in REM, you remember your dreams. I had no idea! So if something like leaks are waking you up, that might be the cause of you remembe...

Re: Do I Really Need CPAP?

Nick, huzzah! I used the handy Google Machine and found the clinician manual and hacked my machine! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. EPR is lowered and I'm eager to see if it makes a difference tonight. Looking forward to the day I can take a new CPAP-er under my wing and offer some co...

Re: Do I Really Need CPAP?

I was super annoyed to find out that the ability to adjust the EPR on my machine is disabled. I was excited to try it and see if it made a difference! Last night was more nightmares--the main one involved the entire house flooding--and I had a lot of leaks (maybe my subconscious was trying to tell m...

Re: Do I Really Need CPAP?

You all are the best. Seriously! This post has been immensely helpful for me. I'm looking forward to working on my machine a bit tonight and seeing if I experience any difference. Also very excited to try out a new mask--both of the ones Pugsy suggested look much more comfy than what I currently have.

Re: Do I Really Need CPAP?

Sleeprider, I'm afraid I'm not knowledgable enough yet to make sense of what you said! What is EPR and how would I get less of it on my machine? I'm going to see if I can get nasal pillows at the DME on Friday. They sound pretty appealing, although I (oddly) have very narrow nostrils so I'm curious ...

Re: Do I Really Need CPAP?

Hey all--Sorry for disappearing yesterday. I'm afraid I don't have any graphs to post; all the info is on my fiancé's computer at home and I only ever remember to log in here when I'm at work (ha!). Anyway, I think yesterday was pretty telling for me. I felt great when I woke up, but it didn't last....

Re: Do I Really Need CPAP?

Yes, the nightmares happen while using the CPAP. I sleep about 2 hours, wake up, use the bathroom, go back to sleep and right back to the horrible nightmares. My daughter is in danger, things like that. Not pleasant, and sometimes makes it difficult to fall back to sleep after waking.

Re: Do I Really Need CPAP?

CG, I'll have to check my paperwork when I get home! Julie, I have to admit I might be too chicken to stop using it for a week I know all too well all of the bad things that go along with apnea, and I certainly don't want to court any trouble in my life. One night is definitely not enough to tell an...

Do I Really Need CPAP?

Let me start off this topic by saying if you all think I'm in the bargaining stage, or delusional, feel free to tell me! But somewhat nicely, if you please. Basically, I'm not sure if CPAP is any real benefit to me, and something worth continuing. So here's the facts: I've been using the CPAP machin...

Re: not noticing too much difference from CPAP.

I'm only about 3 weeks in and will confess that I definitely hoped to be springing out of bed each morning, feeling fully rested and ready to start the day. But most people are still a bit tired when the alarm goes off, even with a good night of sleep. My fiancé (a normal sleeper) confirmed that he ...

Re: Turns Out You CAN Learn to Breathe Through Your Nose

Sigh. I think I've learned my lesson not to post about my experience in the hopes of helping others. In my very first post I said " I post this in the hopes that someone else with the same issue might see this and give the nasal mask a try, or at the very least, use a chin strap/taping with a FFM."....

Re: Turns Out You CAN Learn to Breathe Through Your Nose

Mossy--I replied last night but not sure where that post went! I used a FFM during my sleep study. I only started to use the nasal mask due to suggestions from others on this board. I imagine with the chin strap I do get a small amount of leakage out of my mouth (since it's not tapped shut) but I ha...

Re: Turns Out You CAN Learn to Breathe Through Your Nose

Yeah, the chin strap doesn't feel 100% comfortable, but I'm able to sleep well with it on so I guess that's what counts! Sleepyhead says my leak rate is low, almost non-existent most nights. Interestingly, with the FFM or nasal mask (despite the humidifier), I still get dry mouth.
