CPAP Spouse

Post by Samuel » Mon Oct 18, 2004 9:57 pm

Hi,

I've signed on here representing my wife, who started her cpap use for moderate sleep apnea about a week ago.

We are having some problems with getting the mask to fit well, airleaks, noise, and other such things. I was glad to come across this message board and find that we weren't alone in these difficulties.

I've been rather annoyed that when we were given our introduction to the cpap machine very little mention was given to the sort of problems that seem, from reading posts here, quite common. We weren't quite prepared for what we'd really be dealing with.

But so far my wife feels that the benefits of the therapy are outweighing the sleep lost dealing with leaks, adjusting the mask, etc. It looks like most people have to try several masks before they find the right one for them, so I guess we'll just keep trying.

Sam, you're so right about the lack of guidance that most new users face, along with the strange new equipment. You and your wife are fortunate to have found this forum. Just think of what most new users go through if they don't use the internet or have no idea that such message boards exist.

It's nice to hear that your wife reports feeling better on cpap. If you'll click the words "cpaptalk.com Forum Index" above, and then post any problems you all run across there, people will surely help. But you already know that, since you've been reading the messages and have seen lots of suggestions from fellow users helping each other cope with getting started comfortably - more comfortably than most DMEs start you out.

Good luck to you both. It can get better and better.
