That would be my vote. If this were a poll.

But then, I might be a tad biased.

I also would vote to lock posts over one years old, and lock all polls, turn off the poll option period.

However that won't completely solve the speed problem, the software and equiptment and hosting, while it works, isn't state of the art. Due to cost concerns, that's understandable, it's a live with it situation. We can live with it, it's part of running a free site vs a for profit site.

I'd like to see what changes that can help be done, but that's solely the business of the owners, our money isn't paying the bills.

Thanks for keeping this site running, it is very useful. Jim

Rested Gal and others have compiled lists of links to posts that are relevant any time. It would be a shame to lose those posts with mask fixes, hose hangers etc. There is much useful information in those posts.

Superb, Herb, and I agree with you 100%.

This a very well moderated forum (unlike so many out there) and rude, hateful, or idiotic comments have been quickly quashed by our excellent moderator.

"herefishy" might be surprised by how many contributions from four or five years ago are STILL helpful to new CPAP users.

What is this I keep reading about "speeding up access"? My access is just fine, and I'd suggest if yours isn't it might be your ISP or maybe your browser.

I think it would be a shame to put the lockdown on older posts. I use the search function to read them frequently.

And not to be the contrarian, but why all the uproar about old polls? There may be some good info posted in those threads too, but if they bug you just don't read them for goodness sake! Now, was that hard?

That's not how databases work. There are many other steps that could be taken prior to "purge" to increase performance. Personally I have not noticed any unacceptable load times so I would start by looking at performance on your end (a tool like fiddler can help you do so).

If there was purging I might never have discovered Mike Moran, author of "This Book Blows" and hilarious forum poster extraordinaire! I needed the laughs when I was starting out and "that machine" was still my enemy.

But locking the old tired polls is a good idea because with these recent poll attacks I've seen requests for help get buried and too quickly pushed off the front page of the forum. Locking does not delete, so they'd still be here.

I have already urge the hosts to KEEP THEM ALL.

But my other message may have gotten lost in the positive response:

This forum is NOT SLOW.

Those of use who have good machines, good browsers, good Internet connections have no issues.

It's the READERS problems, not the forums.

There is NOTHING wrong with the speed of this forum -- I am a member of literally hundreds and this forum does just fine.

If you are having trouble it is one or more of your computer, your browser, you Internet provider and connection, or something else peculiar to your situation.

There is ZERO value in purging and a great value in retaining.
