Re: Cheyne-Stokes Respiration -- When to go to ASV machine?

Thanks John. First clue I had about apnea's was when I ended up in the ER due to blocked colon (no BM for nine days, not good)... and I was trying to sleep, and the darned O2 meter kept blaring when I would drop into the 80's. It was a pain in the butt, but it would wake me up. I'd sit up, cough, it...

Re: Getting a CPAP for the first time

Lots of DME's Out there. CPAP.com is one of the favorite non-insurance providers out there. Apria gives me such a headache and heartburn, I'd rather pay $800 out of pocket and buy a new machine from CPAP.com than deal with Apria. You need your Doctor's script, but they also are happy to point out it...

Re: OT: humid air - less comfortable and less dense?

Everyone has their happy moisture settings. I use a nose mask, and leave my "heat" setting on 4. During humid months, it doesn't use much water. During dry winter months, the reservoir is nearly out of water in the morning. It is just humid air doesn't pick up much moisture from the tank. Height of ...

Re: I got some answers today, kteague please take a look

Just a shout out to BLOOD DONORS! Thank you!!! 10 years ago, my wife had a ruptured colon. 3 months ICU, lots of surgeries, and a NINE PINTS of WHOLE BLOOD! So to nine anonymous donor's, you saved her life and I am grateful. Irony is I hadn't donated at that time as the question "have you lived in E...

Re: Cheyne-Stokes Respiration -- When to go to ASV machine?

Thanks John. Sage advice. Went through last six months of CPAP with my sleep doc, and consensus is "keep doing what I am doing". Since we can see a correlation of when my Parkinson's medication wears off and periodic breathing. Periodic breathing isn't a concern as the cause is known. When CSR kicks...

Re: new sleep challenge- heart attack

Glad to hear all was good. Heart Saver CT Scan... folks if you have a "heart hospital" ask them about. Here in Austin, TX they will do that for a flat fee (not insurance billed) for $200. In my case they had a big overweight guy and despite the big neck, my plaque was zero! I'm sure they had that ma...

Re: saying off, yet working

Guest -- post up a city/state and what DME (supplier/dealer/who ever) you are dealing with. Lots of great folks, so often then can help. I have Apria... when I went to pick up the machine, I was told I had to wait three days for an appointment. Came back for my appointment and was told "Therapist is...

stcrim --- on that latest diagram. Could you expand the 2:00 O'Clock time setting to show respiration and include tidal volume? Just curious,
and I'm still learning. Thanks.

Re: Why are people in denial?

I suspect everyone is pretty much in denile about sleep issues. My sleep doc's first thing was "bring your spouse"! After my second sleep study (first was so off the normal chart Doc didn't believe it), it was pretty clear I had other issues than obstructive apnea! CPAP does help! Lots of great folk...

Re: Cheyne-Stokes Respiration -- When to go to ASV machine?

Just a follow up. Another thread was dealing with questions about Tidal Volume, but was asked not to post in that thread but back on my original to keep the flow. I'll meet with the Sleep Doc next week, been going over my SleepyHeadData and notes. I typically take medications for Parkinson's every s...

Re: Obesity, Colon Bacteria, Inflammation, Granny Smith Apples

A good buddy of mine, who is a MD, told me 30 years ago that a lot of health problems could be diagnosed and treated through poop. But he said the problem was that no medical researchers wanted to go into that field. https://scontent-atl1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/1554627_126614735008138...

Re: Snores on a Plane or Whole Lotta Poking Going On

I swear I wasn't on that flight! Worst part is trying to remember "to smile" in airports. When I relax, my facial expression is just like grumpy cat. I'm actually quite content, and feel happy. My face will "mask" any expression. Toss in the "1000 yard stare" and I have a blank face that is staring....

Cheyne-Stokes Respiration -- When to go to ASV machine?

Sleepy Head will flag CSR events occasionally, but when I zoom in on "random nothing noted" locations you see that same waxing/wanning breathing pattern. So my question is "how much CSR during the night is too much?" Trying to understand if I really need a ASV machine, and if so I need ammo for insu...

Re: If your neck is over 17 inches but don't have apnea

Oversized neck might be Goiter, oversized Thyroid.. Low Thyroid might be related to brain fog....I have both 'Sleep Apnea' and low Thyroid. Might seem contradictory, but it is easier to treat 'Sleep Apnea.' Treating "Sleep Apnea' can be incredibly frustrating for some. Low Thyroid can be nearly imp...
