The professional sleep community is obssessed with chin straps. They should all have to wear one for several nights to experience what a patient has to deal with. I tried several and gave up on them pretty fast.

Maybe the collar somehow stabilizes breathing. These collars hold the neck in an optimal position for airway patency. That is the stabilization factor you are wondering about.
